I stayed for one night over Easter weekend. I had somewhere to be very early the next morning, so I wanted someplace reasonably priced and well located. This hotel fit both of those criteria. However, part of me wishes I had paid more.
I arrived at the hotel and entered the bar to check in. It took awhile to check in but the hotel employee apologized which I appreciated. He showed me to my room. The hotel is a historic building that could use some TLC... it was shabby but with potential. He was flexible and helpful when I asked him about my options for checking out so early, which I also appreciated. When he opened my door, I was pleasantly surprised. The hotel went from shabby to modern. I was pleased. Unfortunately, the floor was mostly bare - it was a cement ground (like there had been carpet that was ripped up but never replaced) with a small rug.
While getting organized, I found a used condom in the bedside table drawers. That was the moment where it all turned. I didn't feel very confident in the cleanliness anymore.
The shower itself was nice. There is a communal basic kitchen area (sink, toaster, fridge, microwave, flatware). I asked if they had a hairdryer and was basically laughed at. The bed itself was comfortable.
I'm very torn about this place - I've stayed at hostels that were more affordable, cleaner, and nicer.
It is a well located budget option. Just don't expect much - including cleanliness. And don't forget to bring shower shoes!
