Sweet Afton | Country House in Heart of Wine Country

2 bed, 1 bath country cottage in the heart of wine and beer country located in Afton "proper". This quaint cottage sits on 1.55 fenced-in acres (bring the pups!**) with incredible mountain views and a location that is hard to beat. Whether you are coming for the wine/beer hopping, a vineyard wedding (Veritas is a 3 min drive), or to get outdoors (Blueridge Tunnel Trail- 3 min, Shenandoah National Park - 15 min), Sweet Afton is perfect retreat! High speed, 1gig internet in the rural country.
Sweet Afton is a historic cottage, yet recently updated with modern amenities (central heating and air, updated kitchen appliances) and tasteful new furnishings provide a fresh, relaxing and bucolic atmosphere. The plot has well maintained gardens surrounding the house and walkways, a hammock, a fire pit with 6 chairs and two porches to enjoy a morning coffee or evening glass of wine with company.
Upon the entry to the cottage (enter from driveway in the rear) there is a full kitchen with refrigerator and all of the cooking essentials you will need. Off of the kitchen is a spacious dining room (seats 6) with large bay windows providing beautiful mountain views towards the southwest. From the dining room, a central hallway leads through to the front of the house. Off the hallway, are both bedrooms (queen beds), the full bath and an inviting living room with a pull-out couch (king but also can be a double), a TV and a desk. All of the rooms feel very spacious due to the 10 ft ceilings and natural light from the large windows.
On the front of the house is a covered porch with six rocking chairs and a gas grill. Large bushes in front of the house provide privacy from the nearby road.
Truly a perfect retreat with everything you need and a great location.
**There is a $75 pet cleaning fee per dog - max 2 dogs**

We had a great stay at sweet Afton house and bathroom remodel was a huge improvement. Our only complaint was grass needed mowed when we arrived. Contacted host upon arrival to request mowing as soon as possible. Host committed to Wednesay, two days after our arrival for a 4-night stay. Grass wasn't mowed until Thursday, the day before our departure. No communication from host to follow up on our concern. We love spending time outdoors with our dog, so playtime and clean up was difficult.

We stayed two nights with our pup. The house was very clean and just as described. A great location between the Afton Mountain and Veritas Wineries, both within a mile of the house. Very well appointed kitchen which we appreciated and used both nights. Nice television with many streaming options. Loved the fully fenced backyard with the fire pit for our dog to run. We'll be back!

Booked for a few days to get some work done without too many distractions. My dog LOVED the huge fenced yard and had a grand time. I enjoyed the beautiful flowers growing in the gardens. It's a lovely home and the wifi was ridiculously fast. Has a great kitchen too and comfortable bedrooms.

Sweet Afton is well named.
We spent a very relaxing week here. Sweet Afton is a lovely farmhouse about two miles from the southern tip of Shenandoah National Park. It is very well situated for hiking, and near some nice wineries, cideries, and breweries. There are plenty of restaurants of all types within a short drive. The house itself was just about perfect. The kitchen was well appointed, the beds comfortable, and the the decor was calming and restful. The bathroom was a bit of a tight squeeze, but manageable. The porches were the perfect place for birdwatching, reading, or just relaxing, and the garden was so pretty. We look forward to our next visit.

A perfect weekend get away for a couple or a small family. The house is beautifully decorated and the kitchen is adequately stocked. The property is well maintained and the gardens are gorgeous. The location is close to a varety of attractions. We will definitely be returning. I am already missing the fresh mountain air.

We had a wonderful time at this sweet cottage in the Shenandoahs. The yard was huge and the view was gorgeous. The cottage was old but had such character and was well equipped. We really enjoyed our stay so much. Highly recommend!

SIMPLY AMAZING
This house delivered as both a simple, quiet escape and a wonderful adventure. It is a simple, rustic, charming farmhouse with views of the mountains in a great location to the activities we love (hiking, wineries, breweries, etc.). However, it is more charming and spacious than it appears in photos. The houseplants are such a warm touch. It is well appointed, especially the kitchen ... we cooked a lot while there. And, the fenced in yard is a retreat all to itself and our dog especially enjoyed it! It was cold and snowed during our stay so we appreciated the gas fireplace. We look forward to returning and spending more time outdoors, enjoying the backyard firepit and front/back porches sometime in the near future. The spring blooms were appearing and I can only imagine how gorgeous the plants/flowers will be. And, the property management team is amazing ... super friendly & responsive ... great customer service!

The property had an amazing fenced in yard and very lovely home. It was the kind of place that made you feel comfortable upon entering. The property management team was amazing and immediately helped with a plumbing issue. We would definitely stay at this property again.

Sweet Afton was perfect for us!
Sweet Afton offered everything we needed for a getaway to the mountains. The house had been nicely updated, while still offering the charm of an old farm house. We especially appreciated the fenced in yard for our pups. It was a little cool to enjoy the outside fire pit during our stay, but it certainly looked inviting. We did enjoy the gas logs, as it rained one day during our stay. The location is great for hikes, winery and breweries. We enjoyed all during our stay and even enjoyed a nice walk up the road from the house passed Afton Mountain Winery. The views from the porch were outstanding. We will be back and will recommend Sweet Afton to our friends.

Very charming home with beautiful views of the mountains from the back porch! We enjoyed drinking our coffee in the morning sitting on the back porch glider! The home inside was very clean and welcoming! We stayed here to attend a wedding at one of the vineyards close by. Wish we could have stayed longer!

We had a wonderful weekend at this property. The house is actually more spacious than it even appears in pictures and easily fit our family of 6. Either bedroom would have easily held the pack and play. It is the most nicely furnished house we've ever rented, and the kitchen set up was awesome, which made things so much easier for us. It definitely feels like you're staying in your friend's house for the weekend, not a 'rental.' It is an old farmhouse, for sure, and probably needs a spring cleaning, but not in a way that affected our stay. My kids loved exploring the yard, looking at the stars in the hammock. The location is fantastic for hiking, exploring, eating, and Afton is just so beautiful. We are recommending this house to our friends and would love to come back.

Nice place to stay, big property on the hill side. House needs some maintenance to be done, especially on roof, the verandas and rocking chairs. Gas Barbecue is old and filthy, you will not put your meet on it. The kitchen is well equipped. Very disappointing is the baking oven. Sorry guys, but that is not what you can expect, it needs a very good clean out. Dinning room , living room and seeping room do have very nice furniture and where clean. There is only 1 rest room with old shower. From Wednesday onwards, the property was invaded by hundreds of bugs. The door to the kitchen is not closing 100%, so you have them in the house. We are disappointed!

Period Farmhouse in the Shenandoah Region
This is a 1920s farmhouse near Charlottesville and Shenandoah National Park. The house is mostly original, with an updated kitchen and a large fenced yard. The single bathroom is small, as would be expected from a home almost 100 years old. But the local is good, with the national park, Charlottesville, and plenty of vineyards nearby. Worth a stay.

A great getaway
My fiance and I had a great time at the charming house. It's close to tons of great wineries, breweries and hikes. The decor is lovely, as is the garden, and we didn't experience any issues at all during our stay. We especially loved sitting out on the front and back porches in the evenings and reading.
