Families in particular enjoy Al Khor Beach for its convenient amenities, making a beach day fun for kids and parents. Waters at the shore are shallow, meaning children can splash and play safely. Let your little ones frolic in the sand or water and use the facilities of the small playground.
Bring supplies to cook a meal using the barbecue grills and eat at the picnic area. Buy spicy and sweet karak tea nearby. Restrooms are available. Use beach showers to clean sand off after the end of a fun-filled day. Stroll along Al Khor Corniche, which stretches for about 0.5 mile (1 kilometer) on the western side of the beach. Numerous shelters offer welcome shade for mealtime or beach breaks.
While in Al Khor, consider seeing some of its historic sites, including the three Al Khor Towers and the Well of Ain Hleetan. The eastern tower is about a 10-minute walk from the beach. For a more modern perspective, take an air-conditioned break at Al Khor Mall.
If you want additional variety for your Al Khor beach day, stop at Al Farkeeh Beach, about a 10-minute drive east. This beach has play areas and wooden watchtowers and is open only to families from Thursday through Saturday. Alternatively, head north to Al Thakira Beach, where clusters of bushy mangrove trees offer opportunities for exploration by kayak. Watch for flamingos and herons.
Al Khor is a great choice for getting away from the busy city of Doha. Travel here by car in about 45 minutes or ride a bus in 90 minutes. Because Al Khor is a rather large town, you’ll be able to purchase supplies for your visit to Al Khor Beach fairly close to the sands along Al Khor Corniche. Unlike some of the other beaches north of Doha, this pretty spot does not require renting a four-wheel-drive vehicle to get here.
The beach is always open. As with all public beaches in populated areas, be respectful of local etiquette and dress.
