Alice Springs Golf Club offers a challenging course and great views. Play a round of golf with Mount Johns and the MacDonnell Ranges in the background and the rich red Alice Springs sands contrasting with the golfing green at your feet.
Originally the Alice Springs Golf Club was a nine-hole course overlooking the Todd River. It was moved to its current location after World War II and had a big makeover in the 1980s to transform the course into the contemporary, lush greens you can enjoy today.
There are exciting challenges at each of the 18 holes on the outback green. The spinifex grass on the edge of the fairways requires aim and precision. Long pars on rocky ridges will test your driving skills.
A water hazard on the 17th hole attracts desert dwelling wildlife. Look out for kangaroos. Climb the rise on the third hole for spectacular views of the MacDonnell Ranges. Try your hand at beating Greg Norman’s six under 66 from his exhibition game here in 1985. Only a handful of locals have been able to beat it so far.
Enjoy a well-deserved break and some Australian cuisine at the Clubhouse restaurant, which open for lunch Friday, Saturday and Sunday and for dinner from Tuesday to Sunday. Quench your thirst at the bar, which is open every day except Monday.
Summers in Alice Springs are hot. The best time to visit is during the cooler months of May to September when the air is cool and crisp and the views of the MacDonnell Ranges are clearer. Sunset is particularly beautiful, when the red soil and the ranges appear to glow.
