High Barn, Ambleside

This is a fantastic property close to the centre of Ambleside, set in a quiet street just off Kirkstone Road in the conservation area, a stone’s throw from the Golden Rule.

Converted from an original barn, the property is well equipped and furnished and has parking for two cars - a premium for Ambleside. There are three bedrooms; two doubles and a single. One of the doubles can be arranged as a twin with optional zip and link 2ft 6in beds (please let us know when booking if you would like this set up as singles). Kitchen with dining area, spacious hall with time-worn flagged floor and cosy living room with a wood-burning stove. There is also a downstairs toilet just off the entrance hall.

Outside is a terraced garden with outside seating and a small garage area that has ample storage for bikes and equipment.

High Barn is in a great location, with walks from the door, up towards Red Screes, or over to High Sweden Bridge and around the Fairfield Horseshoe, or, for fantastic views over Lake Windermere, go up past Stockgyll and up to the summit of Wansfell. Only a short walk into the town centre, with great bars and restaurants, and a good range of shops for supplies and entertainment. Ambleside also boasts three small cinemas for those rainy days.

Clean, light-filled property, in amazing location
One of the rare finds where the property is actually BETTER than the listing pictures. High Barn is very clean with high quality finishes and amenities. Home is light and bright and only a two minute walk to the center of town. Excellent property and would highly recommend!

Not perfect
House in the town of Ambleside, good location for eating and drinking. lovely kitchen, bedrooms and bathroom . Not spotlessly clean. Windowsills dusty, mattress seams hairs and dust, son and husband felt wheezy. Single bed didn’t have a fitted sheet so adult daughter needed to keep refitting during the night hence noticing the hairs and dust. Sitting room not comfortable for four adults, sofas not big enough to stretch out on. Not cosy, not a single piece of wood provided, just kindling. Good garage for bike storage etc. A big issue for us driving a ford transit van was the access. The local garage made access up the road difficult with customer cars. It made it awkward to keep asking them to move and they were reluctant and pointed out that people have lived here for many years. Once we needed to pay in the car park rather than approach them again, they seemed to have an issue with holiday makers. In order for us to stay here again, living room furniture needs improvement, the local garage needs talking to, the cleaning needs to be improved. Apologies for a negative review JS

Lovely property, great location, tight parking
The pictures of the property don't quite do it justice. Its very clean, well equipped, comfortable beds and in the center of Ambleside yet very quiet. We loved the house and the location. I don't think there is really enough room for 2 cars as described. Also, we had one SUV and struggled on occasion to either reverse in or reverse out past the other cars parked in the small lane. You either need to be confident driving a big car in small spaces or take a small car!

December weekend
Family of 5 adults had an excellent stay. Great location , minutes walk into Ambleside centre. House really well kept and appointed. Only one slight issue was that I asked for the double to be split into 2 singles, but it wasn't. We did it ourselves- the resulting singles are quite small ( particularly as our adult son is 6'3"). Fine for the weekend though. That aside, absolutely no complaints - really good property. Cheers.
