Go horseback riding and rush down the zip line in the adventure park beside this mammoth feat of Jesuit engineering made of over 40 arches.

The Xalpa Aqueduct, or Arcos del Sitio, is one of the most thrilling and fascinating features near the historic town of Tepotzotlán. Built in the 18th century, the vast structure comprises large arches and bridges and historically carried water from the river to the town. Enjoy the fun activities in the eco-park surrounding the structure.

Hike with your family though the picturesque surroundings and capture photos of the vast aqueduct. The area has a large circuit running around the aqueduct, incorporating bridges and viewing platforms. Mountain biking is a popular activity in this hilly terrain. Enjoy the vista of rolling, green hills stretching toward the horizon. Spot the range of reptiles, birds and amphibians in the eco-park.

Bring a picnic to enjoy while gazing at the columns and marvel at the sheer size of the structure. The main part of the aqueduct has more than 40 arches spread across four levels, with the tallest part about 200 feet (60 meters) high. It is the highest of its kind in Mexico and runs across a gorge for about 1,440 feet (440 meters).

Find out more about the region at the eco-tourism center, where you can rent horses to explore the park. Organize some zip-line fun or walk across a high bridge over the gorge. You can also camp overnight under the stars in this park, which has a swimming pool and barbecue zone.

Note that the structure is best known locally as the Arcos del Sitio (Arches of the Site). It was built in the 1700s by Jesuits.

The Xalpa Aqueduct is about 20 miles (30 kilometers) northwest of Tepotzotlán in central Mexico. Drive to the site from Mexico City in about 2 hours and leave your car in the eco-park’s designated spaces. See nearby landmarks, such as the Zumpango Lagoon, the National Museum of the Viceroyalty and the Xochitla Ecological Park.
