Relax under the waving trees of this secluded Goan beach, swim in the warm Arabian Sea or dine at international or Indian restaurants.

Ashvem Beach is a hidden gem with stunning scenery and range of nice beach hotels and resorts. Most people come to this beach during the day for sunbathing and swimming, but there are some great options for dinner and accommodation too. Walk a little inland, through the forest, to see some authentic Goan villages and temples.

Stroll along 1.5 kilometres (1 mile) of fine sand and listen to the soothing sounds of the lapping waves and the rustle of the palm leaves. Play in the waves and let the Arabian Sea’s warm waters relax your body.

Buy lunch from a vendor in one of the many huts hidden between the trees. There are a few notable international restaurants along the beach, which offer anything from French cuisine to typical Indian curries. If you are on a budget, haggle with the many hawkers on the beach for cheaper food or drinks.

Stay overnight at one of the low-cost huts or check out the upscale beach resorts in the quieter area of the beach. This section is known as Palm Grove, due to its collection of trees. The accommodation is mostly in the form of comfortable beach huts, as environmental protection laws prevent the building of new brick structures.

Despite all the resorts and restaurants, the beach remains remarkably empty and undisturbed. There is a noise curfew in the evenings, so the sound of the waves rules the area. For a break from sunbathing, venture to the charming Goan villages nearby. The villages are surrounded by coconut groves, forests and fields. Take the short rickshaw journey to Arambol Beach at night to take part in festivities at bars and clubs.

Ashvem Beach is situated in the Pernem region, in the northern area of Goa. Ashvem lies just south of Mandrem Beach and north of Morjhim Beach. The mouth of the River Chapora is just south of the beach. A nearby attraction is the elegant Morjai Temple, an ancient place of worship. To get there, you can rent a bicycle or scooter in Goa or take a taxi or bus.
