Casa Douro Terrace -River Views Douro Valley 60' from Porto

Serene beauty and total privacy on a large terrace over the Douro!

Holiday home in the green landscape of arbutus and cork trees, with privileged views of the river, at the gates of the Douro Wine Region, a world heritage site.

To share with friends and family, on barbecue and revelry afternoons on the riverfront terrace, savoring the green wine of Tormes, or quietly reading at sunset. At night "(...) nothing more beautiful, and more vain than a cave on top of the mountains, looking at the stars! ... "* And in the colder season, why not a port when the flames crackle in the warmth of the fireplace?

Set in a 3000 m2 wooded and landscaped property, Casa Douro Terrace offers 3 elegant and spacious bedding rooms, one with a panoramic balcony overlooking the valley and the river; large living / dining room with fireplace, television, stereo system, DVD, books, games (adults and children) and toys; two full bathrooms with a hairdryer and free toiletries; Kitchen equipped with stove, kitchenware, stove / oven, fridge, dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker, kettle and blender.

Douro Terrace features free WiFi. Free private outdoor parking is available. Free bicycles are available. There is possibility of cleaning during the stay. The rooms are equipped with heating.

Outside there is a large terrace with garden furniture and barbecue. The terrace overlooks a wooded area that extends to the river.

Baião, with the largest green area in the district of Porto, breathes “fine and pure air” * and offers natural scenery of “incomparable beauty” *, river beaches, historic routes, preserved villages, ancient monuments and excellent cuisine.

Be dazzled by the “natural life of Baião”, enjoy the riverside place of Pala with its orange groves, practice water sports, walk along Ribadouro's Roman sidewalk, cool off in the pure waters of the Bestança River (Cinfães) and the river beach from the river Ovil. Follow the Romanesque route - visit the Ancede Monastery (founded in the 18th century). XII) and the bridge of Esmoriz. Take the “Jacinto Way” from Aregos (Tormes) Station and go up the mountain to Tormes. Discover the villages lost in time (Mafómedes), the Serra do Marão, the indigenous Carvalhal de Reixela, the Serra da Abobreira with its megalithic monuments and delight in the wines and the local cuisine.

Finally, be dazzled by the Douro vineyard by catching the train at Aregos station “(…) the tiny Tormes station (…), by the river, among rocks, with its showy sunflowers…” * and continue to Pocinho, on the Douro line, on a trip through Miguel Torga's “wonderful kingdom”

Douro Valley escape
Everything was spot on! Only problem was being able to initially find the property as I had difficulty driving and looking at google maps at the same time and not being conversant in Portuguese. Thankfully we were rescued by the owner as there was a main road closed not marked. Afterwards, things were great!

So so so nice!!
We spent 3 nights and there were 6 of us. The house is so spacious and comfortable. We were several hours late in checking in but Joao was still very welcoming and helped us find the location by guiding us over the phone. He had a special bread for us as well as a great bottle of wine which we enjoyed. The views are amazing from the home and patio. Do not hesitate to book this property, you will not regret it!!

The property is superb, everything you need is there, and the view is very special. We took the train to Porto and back, which was great, but were really glad to get back to the space and tranquility of the house. Joao is an excellent host, great communication.

Great View, awesome home Fabulous, Host great!
The host is great, the place is great home it’s cozy comfortable and well equipped, an awesome view. A spectacular large place with panoramic views from back wrap around patio, high in the hills over the Douro. Beds comfortable AC in each bedroom - Quiet location - only praise. Finding the place is a bit hard at first - a small drive off country like road but well worth that step to be amazed of the place and its view and comfort. Host provided a warm welcome bottle if wine cake for our arrival.

In the hearth of the Douro valley
This property has an astonishing view of the Douro Valley and it's near vineyards, without the need to drive for hours to reach them. Also, the air conditioning in each bedroom was very welcome during the heatwaves. João was very kind to show us everything we needed in the house and in the region... do not miss the small vineyard just 5 minutes away with their excellent white and rosé wines! As a side note, this house is located in the mountains, so the parking spot is a bit narrow and only two sides of the house have viable windows... but what a view!

Paradise in the heart of Douro`
We really enjoyed our week-long stay at João's beautiful home perched on the crest of the hills enveloping a valley with views of lush green forests, vineyards and the Douro river. The home is spacious and well appointed with amenities. The place is a great location to stay if you plan to explore the Douro valley with its many vineyards, wineries and small towns and villages with its igrejas, quintas and miradouros. João took care to give us a walkthrough of his home, a few of his recommendations and then wished us a good stay. His recommendations didn't disappoint. Our stay was comfortable, relaxed and rejuvenating. We will eagerly look for opportunities to come and stay here again.

Fabulous property
Absolutely stunning property with incredible views, We spent many hours on the patio relaxing with a stunning view of terraced landscape and the river. Our favorites were the patio and day trips to many stunning nearby towns and villages. My daughter and i enjoyed wineries and the train ride through the douro wine region was breathtaking. You do need a car to get there and be able to get around. The property owner was very helpful with a personal introduction to the house and many tips on how to get around and special places to visit.

Awesome scenery
We were a party of six from Canada coming from Porto. The drive was awesome and the scenery from the back deck was very spectacular. Joao met us at the house and gave us a welcoming tour which included a bottle of Port, a beautiful chocolate cake and some chocolates wrapped in foil. They were delicious! We had loaded up on groceries before leaving Porto and this was a good decision as there wasn’t much for local mercado’s nearby. Also we mentioned to Joao that we were looking to visit a local winery and he arranged for us tour a 5 star facility nearby to learn all about the business and to taste their best products. This property is actually in the vinho verde region of Portugal just short of the Douro valley where the real port is produced but the scenic drive and the spectacular views were well worth the efforts to find it.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Casa Douro Terrace. The house had everything we could have hoped for, and the spaciousness and views from the terrace were just perfect. It was a perfect, quiet and peaceful spot, and ideal for exploring the best parts of the Douro valley. Thanks in particular go to our host Joao, who gave us such a kind and generous welcome. Beautiful modern house with wonderful views to the Douro and to the opposit side of the valley. The house is so well equipped and comfortable, it feels like a home which is loved. The hosts were charming, generous and helpful always available to assist with suggestions. One needs a car as the terrain is steep and the property is quite isolated. The train station is 10 minutes drive away with regular trains to Porto or the other direction. Lots of places were accessible. We thoroughly enjoyed our holiday in the Douro.

Quiet home with a stunning view
The home was exactly as advertised! Amazing view of the river and Douro Valley. Spotlessly clean and I was amazed that all of the windows were also spotless to take advantage of the wonderful views. There is a constant breeze, sometimes strong, but refreshing. When hot, shade on the deck is hard to come by, but really not much of an issue. The kitchen was modern and fairly well outfitted for cooking and eating. As with all rentals, I found that the knives were very dull, but I have learned to bring a collapsible sharpening rod! I was a little disappointed in the grill as it was very dirty and greasy, lacked grilling tools and nothing around to clean it up. My wife loved the washing machine and appliances. We would absolutely rent here again. It fit our life style perfectly. It is a bit away from grocery stores and you DO NOT want to drive at night on any of the roads in the Douro As parking is very limited so people simply park either halfway on the road, or in some cases, in the middle of the road. Somewhat startling to round one of the constant bends in the road to find car parked in the middle of your lane. Also, DO NOT TRUST GOOGLE MAPS. What it identifies as a road will frequently be a cobble stone, one lane road that narrows down to a small car width and requires the mirrors to be folded in. This can cause a bit of a nervous meltdown by your passengers. Okay for the locals but very nerve wracking for others.

The home itself is beautiful, spacious, clean and well organized! The two patios offer incredible views of the forest, the valley and the Douro. The oversized lower patio is perfect for relaxing, grilling and enjoying the sun and the stars! We thoroughly enjoyed our two weeks here exploring the region. The hosts were incredibly helpful with local information provided both at the home and in the listing. HIGHLY recommend this property!

A slice of life away from the crowds
The house is so beautiful! The views are amazing, and Joao could not be kinder. He provided every single thing to make us comfortable and happy. It’s a great place to relax, and the house has everything you need. The terrace is breathtaking! Don’t stay here if your main interests are the wineries. This Is is on the border of the Vinho Verde and Douro DOC, and the biggest cluster of wineries are not close by. The driving, although stunning, is winding and sometimes hair-raising.. However, the scenery is fantastic, and the nearby area is much more “real” than the area farther east which is packed with wineries. We had much more of a sense of how people live, and less of a “curated” experience of being in a place set up to receive tourists. There are wineries in the Douro DOC that are close enough for day trips. Make a reservation in advance for Quinta da Crasto or other famous wineries. Closer by, the winery Quinta Covelo was wonderful and incredibly beautiful. This house is beautiful and comfortable, and a lovely place to relax. The kitchen is great for cooking, and feels like home. Thank you, Joao!

Worth the Journey
After walking the hills of Obidos, Coimbra and Porto we were thrilled to arrive at Joao and Orlanda's house in Ancede. The pictures fall short in showing off the beauty and charm and warmth of the house. Joao and Orlanda were there to greet us and introduce us to their house. They left us with beautifully arranged treats on the dining room table. The kitchen was one of the best supplied kitchens. The rooms are large and the linens great. The wood floors and the woodwork aroung the house are beautiful. Step outside on the deck and the view of the Douro River and valley make you want to stay forever. We were only there for 2 night. It would be easy to stay for longer. Driving on some of the roads in this area is not for the feint of heart, but i don't know if you even need to leave the house.
