Discover the tomb of one of Scotland’s most infamous outlaws beside the ruins of a medieval church and its modern replacement.

Balquhidder Church is the site of an elegant religious home standing next to the ruins of another former church. Forests and mountains from the Braes of Balquhidder add a scenic background to the eerie cemetery and stone walls. Find the grave of notorious outlaw Rob Roy MacGregor beside his wife and two sons.

The cattle rustler is known across the Scottish Highlands as a Robin Hood figure. Learn about his fascinating life and the legend created around him while he was still alive.

Capture photos of these graves in the kirkyard with the ruins of the medieval Old Church serving as a backdrop. Note the intriguing tombs and shrines of families and notable figures. This site was constructed in 1631 to replace a former building known as Little Church.

Enter the parish church, which was built in 1853. Its modern interior is a stark contrast to the ruins and gravestones surrounding it. Note the abundance of wood used for the ceiling, the pulpit and the Communion table. A stone here once marked the grave of St. Angus, who is credited with bringing Christianity to the region in the 7th century. Inspect the diagram mapping the religious history of the village on a metal plate. It contains background information on the gravestones.

Embark on a nature walk through this scenic region to reach stunning landmarks, such as Loch Voil and Loch Earn. The Balquhidder Glen is a popular area for hiking and fishing. Hike to the waterfalls of Creag An Tuirc.

The parish church is open to visitors daily and is free of charge. Balquhidder Church is just north of Loch Voil in the center of the charming village of Balquhidder. Drive west for 7 miles (11 kilometers) from Lochearnhead to get to the church in 20 minutes.
