Charming house in the park of a historic monument castle

Three kilometers from the center of Bayeux and 7 kilometers from the sea, this charming 18th century house, completely restored, is located in the grounds of Barbeville castle, historic monuments. The location is ideal for discovering all the landing sites, the superb city of Bayeux and the beautiful Bessin region, but also for enjoying the beaches, the property's tennis courts and the Omaha Beach golf course. The 200 m2 house consists of a ground floor with an entrance hall, a laundromat, a WC with hand basin, a kitchen opening onto a large dining room, and a very large and very comfortable living room.
On the 1st floor there is a WC, three large bedrooms and two very modern bathrooms, one of which communicates with two bedrooms. The whole is decorated with research and refinement giving this house a very warm atmosphere. An outdoor terrace facing south allows you to enjoy the sun and the view of a pretty garden and a superb panorama. The park has tennis, a trampoline and a ping-pong table, all in an environment of calm and neat greenery ... The superb golf course at Omaha Beach in Port-en-Bessin (36 holes) is 7 km away. The small town of Bayeux, 3 km away, preserved during the war, has retained its historic value with its 12th century cathedral, its half-timbered houses, its many 17th and 18th century mansions. The charm of its Saturday morning market makes it a curiosity for the whole region. A pretty and very interesting museum of art and history has been completely renovated very recently ... The Bessin region around Bayeux offers many historic mansions and castles from the 16th to the 18th centuries, most of which can be visited. If you are a lover of gardens, you can organize a circuit: garden of the castle of Brécy famous for its box hedges, garden of Castillon with innumerable varieties of flowers .... Among the many day trips, there are: Mont Saint-Michel (listed as a UNESCO heritage site), the Channel Islands of Jersey, Guernsey, Serck and Alderney. The Chausey Islands are particularly remarkable for their tidal range at high tides. The bay of Veys is a paradise for birds, next to the Cotentin marshes with superb landscapes.

Difficult to put in to words
This place is charming, cozy, lovely, and magical. Christian and his lovely wife, Marie-Christine are wonderful people. The carriage house was perfect. Lots of room to relax with a great kitchen. If you love old world charm with history, this place in perfect for you. Christian gave us a grand tour and told us the history of the grand house. We love it at chateau Barbeville and hope to come back. PS. The location is perfect for seeing everything in Normandy.

Tranquil setting, beautiful property
This historic property is located only 2.5 Km from Bayeux. The location is quiet and beautiful. Christian and Marie-Chrisine are gracious hosts, and Christian was very helpful in directing us to fine dining (as well as helping me with my parking ticket in Bayeux).

Normandy Home Perfect
A well equipped, comfortable, relaxing environment. The grounds and gardens are beautiful and we enjoyed sitting outside in the late afternoon and evening. Our hosts were wonderful. They provided much assistance with local restaurants and places to visit. The home is very centrally located to visit the DDay museums and beaches as well as many Chateau's, Jardins, and other attractions. Highly recommend. We hope to go back!!

Glorious stay at the Chateau de Barbeville
We stayed here on a trip to Normandy beaches and feel so lucky to have found the perfect spot for 6 adults - grandparents, their two adult grandaughters and 2 daughters. We felt part of history and based ourselves here while we explored the area and the perfect French town of Bayeaux. Christian and Marie-Christine were warm and welcoming, the kitchen fully stocked for us to cook and sit at the beautiful dining room table and visit when we were not going out. Less than 10 minute drive to Bayeaux for shopping, trips to the boulangerie and dinners out. Lots of space in the house and outside for 6 adults. Cannot recommend enough and will definitely be back! Thank you so much for the magical stay!

Fantastic property
This is an unbeatable place to stay - the house is extremely comfortable and beautifully furnished, with lovely gardens. It is in a great location - less than a 5 minute drive to Bayeux but set in peaceful countryside. Our hosts were extremely hospitable and charming, and we spent an idyllic week at Barbeville. We would strongly recommend the property to both couples and families alike, and will certainly be returning.

Everything was awesome
This place is everything it is advertised to be and then some. Christian was excellent to communicate with and even forwarded a book he created to assist visitors with their planning. The main highway is easily accessible which made travel incredibly easy. I would highly recommend this for family lodging as the rooms are big, the kitchen has everything and groceries are a 5 minute drive away in Bayeaux.

Great location close to Bayeux
Fantastic location just 1 mile from Bayeux. The host was very informative and lives in the Château. The unit/Annex is the coach house that has a nice three bedroom layout. Good for up to six people. The grounds are spacious and the little village includes a 13th century church right next door. The Kitchen is well stocked and spacious. Modern appliances including a dishwasher, washer, and dryer. The location is a good base for your Normandy vacation.

Outstanding!
Could not have been more pleased with this gorgeous 18th century home! The hosts, Christian and Marie-Christine, were not only professional and kind, but extremely gracious by inviting us into their home for drinks. Our accommodation at the cottage was perfectly lovely- clean, convenient, and comfortable. Loved the fireplace, well-equipped kitchen, and location. The tennis court and trampoline gave our kids extra entertainment. We can’t wait to come back here for an extended stay! Thank you Christian and Marie-Christine!

Normandy in spring.
We spent four wonderful days in Normandy and our stay at this property greatly enhanced our trip The carriage house is beautifully decorated(especially the bedrooms) and is as comfortable and cosy as can be. The grounds are lovely and we were lucky to be there when a magnificent white tree was blooming right on our doorstep. The chateau itself is very impressive and our hosts were kind and friendly and will always be a part of our memories of our journey. In the future, we would happily return to this property.

A peaceful and beautiful place
This is a unique and beautifully restored 18th century carriage house. It has a wonderful old time feel but with all the modern conveniences and equipment. There is a lovely "backyard" with fruit trees and tables for eating. The house is set in a peaceful rural location but close to Bayeux and its many good restaurants and of course the tapestry which is a "must see." The hosts live in the chateau and are very nice and helpful but not intrusive. I can't think of enough good things to say about this vacation rental. My husband and I spent a very happy week there.

Barbeville coach house
The only thing keeping me from giving it a five star rating was the toilet situation. The accommodations were wonderful, the bathrooms were modern but neither bathroom had a toilet. Four of us had to share one toilet situated in the hallway. At times it was problematic. Also, may I suggest that grab bars be installed in the tub area . Otherwise, the location could not have been better for exploring Normandy. And our hosts were very gracious.

Feeling at home in Normandy...
Marie-Christine and Christian are an elegant, warm couple whose guest house exudes the same. The location is perfect— a quick ten minute ride to Bayeux. There are wonderful supermarkets close by and the Kitchen so well appointed we had several evening meals at home. The bedrooms so comfortable that there were days we were tempted to sleep in and skip touring! Our comments do not do justice to this beautiful home and location. The Falls

Charming 18th century house in the shadow of the main chateau. Located close to Bayeux and all things related to D-DAY. Tbe owners went above and beyond to help us during the 75th anniversary of D-Day. We brought along some friends who had never visited Normandy and they were very impressed. This was my eighth visit to my uncle's grave above Omaha Beach and Christian and Christine made me feel like family.

A GREAT PLACE TO TOUR THE NORMANDY BATTLE FIELDS AND MUSEUMS. YOU WILL STAY IN PEACEFUL COUNTRYSIDE BUT THE CHARMING TOWN OF BAYEUX IS ONLY A SEVEN MINUTE DRIVE AWAY. A real life fairy tale
Oh my, it was such delight to stay here! The home was cozy, clean and welcoming with plenty of space for our family. The perfect resting spot at the end of each day of exploring the surrounding area. The town of Bayeux, just down the street a ways, is beautiful with plenty of old town charm and modern conveniences too. I had the best stay ever and would love to return one day. Oh it was so hard to say goodbye! (My family and I will forever be grateful for our time spent here and for the kindness of the owners. Thank you!)

Absolutely lovely!
This was the perfect location for our family of 6 (3 generations) to stay while in Normandy. The home is lovely, charming, comfortable and located on the beautiful grounds of a chateau built in the 1700s. The home has been beautifully maintained and decorated and has all the modern amenities and a well equipped kitchen. There was plenty of room for all of us. The property is delightful with beautiful gardens, plenty of space for the kids to roam, a tennis court, ping pong table, and trampoline. Barbeville is minutes from downtown Bayeux with multiple grocery stores and restaurants. It is centrally located so you see all that Normandy has to offer. Christian and Marie-Christine were quickly responsive to my inquiry and questions prior to the trip. Due to a family emergency, we did not have the pleasure of meeting them. However, Jocelyn, their housekeeper, took wonderful care of us while we were in Barbeville. She was available when we checked in, showed us around, and checked on us during our stay. I would highly recommend this home if you are traveling to Normandy.

Filled with cozy, warm French charm.
We were two couples traveling together. This lovely house in a picturesque setting was a perfect base for exploring Normandy. Coming home each night was truly like “coming home”. We loved recounting the day over wine and nibbles in the living room in front of the old stone fire place, and then venturing into the well appointed kitchen to prepare the spoils of each day’s markets. Our host, Christian, most graciously invited us for wine, helped us with restaurant reservations and sight suggestions, and gave us an in-depth history lesson of the property - absolutely fascinating! We found the house perfect for two couples, it is beautifully maintained, and decorated in impeccable French country taste. We can’t wait to return...

A rather special holiday location
This was the first time we have stayed at a French chateau (1753) moreover one where the owner can trace their family back to “William The Conqueror” in 1066. At some time in the history of the Coach House it was very sympathetically converted to living accommodation so that it has a similar atmosphere to the chateau itself. The bed we used, in the blue room, was very comfortable. The Salon furniture is in keeping with the period, being rather aged. The owners, Christian and Marie-Christine, are a charming couple who were most welcoming and very helpful whenever required. Jocelyne, the housekeeper, is most friendly and eager to be of help. As well as the Tapestry there are many interesting museums in the area. Bayeux escaped the wartime devastation suffered by many other towns and is most attractive. The Saturday market is very good. We particularly enjoyed products from the meat and paella stalls. I recommend going early. We arrived on both occasions at 08:15. Seafood restaurants in the area are very good. We stayed at the chateau for 18 days and found plenty to do besides visiting the wartime sites. The gentle countryside is very pleasant, and the coast is attractive and interesting. Places to visit are well documented in the house.

A charming and elegant holiday home steeped in history
It was a joy to stay in the coach house - a beautifully decorated historic building which is also a very comfortable holiday home. The Delecourts were perfect hosts and very interesting to talk to about their family history at the Chateau. It was a pleasure to know that the property had been in the same family for so many generations. It is ideally situated for Bayeux and also the Landing Beaches. On the owners recommendation we ate at some fantastic restaurants, found lovely beaches and fishing towns. We hope to stay there again.

we had a wonderful time staying in the coach house to the Chateau in Barbeville. We had wonderful weather cycling to the D Day beaches and Bayeux to see the tapestry The house was really comfortable and beautifully equipped and decorated and our hosts M and Mme Delacourt were so charming and helpful. They gave us great recommendations for restaurants and places to visit. This is one of the best places I have stayed in as a holiday home and we would all love to come back to explore more of Bayeux and cycle around more of the countryside
