Bardakci Beach is a pretty beach that curves around the scenic Bardakci Bay. It’s the nearest sandy beach to the center of Bodrum and is often busy with both tourists and locals. Relax while enjoying views across the bay to Bodrum’s main tourism area. Take a refreshing swim in the cool water of the Aegean Sea. Enjoy traditional Turkish cuisine at one of the waterfront restaurants.
Bardakci Beach holds a significant place in the myths of ancient Greece. Legend states that it was here that Hermaphroditus, the son of Aphrodite, became enamored with Salmacis, a water nymph.
The beach itself is a small curve of golden sand lapped by the crystal-clear Aegean Sea. You’ll find standard beach facilities for rent such as beach lounge chairs and umbrellas. Umbrellas provide invaluable shade from the frequently hot sun. Stand at the water’s edge and enjoy the views of some of Bodrum’s main attractions. Spot the architecturally-impressive Bodrum Castle and the luxury yachts moored in Bodrum Marina.
Lining the beach is a collection of hotel resorts complete with swimming pools, bars and restaurants. Most of the resorts welcome day visitors as well as guests. Dine on fresh seafood or sample a traditional Turkish meze, a selection of appetizers such as cheese, meatballs and yogurt dips.
Walk up into the hills that surround the beach and check out the collection of old windmills. Gaze out to the picturesque Kara Ada Island and, on a clear day, spot Kos Island in the near distance.
Bardakci Beach is easily accessible from all areas of Bodrum. Public buses, known as dolmus, leave regularly from Bodrum Otogar, the main bus terminal. Buses often continue to nearby Gumbet Beach, a modern beach resort and popular hub for watersports. Otherwise, catch a water taxi from Bodrum Marina for a scenic journey around the bay. The beach is a 30-minute walk from Bodrum’s town center.
