Barossa Valley
This scenic South Australian valley is a haven for the gourmet traveller and features famous wineries and fine dining in a picturesque country setting.

Barossa’s gently sloping hills and rolling plains are among the most fertile and rich in Australia, making the scenic region an acclaimed produce growing region. Renowned for its lush country landscapes and German heritage, the Barossa features an array of reputable cellar doors, restaurants and agricultural estates. Sample fine local wines and fresh regional produce on a tour through this beautiful region in South Australia.

Explore this picturesque region on a journey along Barossa Valley Way, the main artery. This road connects the region’s main towns: Nuriootpa, Tanunda, Lyndoch and Rowland Flat. Wind your way through the region’s smaller towns and find clusters of vineyards, wineries and historic buildings. Stop by a cellar door to enjoy an informative tasting and try the Barossa’s famous shiraz, riesling, semillon, grenache and cabernet sauvignon varieties. Pair a fortified wine with delicious regional cheeses and fruits for a distinctly Barossa experience.

Seppeltsfield Road, near Nuriootpa, is one of the region’s premier winery locations and features over 50 different wineries and estates. Visit Bethany, the first settlement in the Barossa region with a vineyard that dates back to 1852. Visit the weekly Barossa Farmers Market in Angaston to collect picnic cheeses, pâtés, traditional German breads and sweet cakes. Discover the Barossa German lineage at a restaurant serving German-heritage food, such as mettwurst and other traditional-style smallgoods.

Nestled among the Barossa Ranges, the Kaiserstuhl Conservation Park is perfect for bushwalkers. There are two walking trails passing through a variety of landscapes including creeks, rocky outcrops, areas of low forest, scrub and open grassland.

Visit the Barossa during one of its region-wide food and wine festivals. The Barossa Vintage Festival, held every autumn, celebrates the end of the grape harvest and features a range of exciting food and wine events. The annual Barossa… Be Consumed Gourmet Weekend offers food, wine, music and arts for three days in August.

The Barossa is located 60 kilometres (37 miles) northeast of Adelaide, South Australia’s capital city. Public transport is limited, so explore the region by car, charter tour or by bike along the scenic cycling trails.
