cozy efficiency walk-up
The apartment consists of an entryway, a bathroom (sink, large tub with rain shower and hand shower), a little room with a toilet and a small sink, and one large space that serves as kitchen, eating area (small table with two chairs), living area (sofa, coffee table, two straight-backed chairs, small TV stand with small TV) and bedroom (a large nook that can be curtained off containing a bed for two and some closet and hanging space). The sofa and the bed are very comfortable. The lighting on one end of the sofa and both sides of the bed is more than adequate for reading. The kitchen is well-furnished with the basics, mostly matching and all in good condition. There is a small fridge and a 4-burner electric cooktop, but no oven or microwave. The heating in January was perfectly adequate. There is an interesting selection of books in German and in English and lots of information about things to do and see in Berlin. The only thing I wasn't expecting was that the apartment is on the 3rd floor (the 4th floor if you count the ground floor the way Americans do) and there is no elevator. This wasn't a problem for me but could be for someone with a lot of luggage.Charlottenberg is a quiet neighborhood, mostly residential. The Opera is right around the corner, though, and it's just over a mile walk to Charlottenberg Castle and a couple of museums near there. Kantstrasse has a number of Asian restaurants. There is an OK grocery store a block from the apartment.
