Luxury Cottage Next to Medieval Castle with Stunning Valley Views!

Resting atop an enchanting Medieval village and right next to a pristine castle lies La Maisonnette du Coteau. Recently renovated, this exquisite cottage offers numerous luxuries, while maintaining a deep respect for it's Medieval roots.

Rest here while you experience a taste of a French countryside steeped in history and culture. Not only will you enjoy the beauty, comfort, and luxurious ammenities at La Maisonnette, but you'll also appreciate Beynac's delicious restaurants, amazing concerts, beautiful walks, stunning art galleries, and one of France's most well-preserved castles within minutes.

When you stay at La Maisonnette, you'll understand why it's one of the most photographed homes in the village, and on several of the printed postcards you'll find around town. Its prominent place atop the Cliffside village of Beynac-et-Cazenac affords its guests breathtaking views of the Dordogne River, the entire valley, and of the village. Enjoy a dinner or lunch outside on the terrace overlooking the canoes dotting the river, or take a bath in a claw foot tub while you gaze out across the Valley of the Five Chateau. Now that's what we call relaxing!

Inside the home you'll find:

* gourmet kitchen with stainless steel appliances including a sub-zero freezer, two refrigerator drawers, and a dishwasher; the highlight of the kitchen is the gourmet La Canche gas stove--a stove that professional cooks in Europe use throughout France
* beautifully restored wood beams in every living space
* a mix of modern and antique furnishings, including a few pieces that are hundreds of years old
* thick, perfectly restored stone walls
* unique window shapes and ornate iron work on the exterior
* romantic master suite with queen-size bed and a private bathroom, including a claw foot tub overlooking the Dordogne Valley.
* 2 additional guest rooms, one featuring another queen-size bed with both antique and modern furnishings; another with two twin beds; both are lovely and very comfortable
* Sleeps 5-6 people
* Antique tile floor on the mail level, recently refurbished hardwood floors throughout the remainder of the cottage
* Modern bathroom on the second level, including a luxurious shower cabin and a towel warmer; private views of the nearby hillside as well
* relaxing TV/movie room where a TV, DVD player and leather sofa await
* both a washer and a dryer on the premises
* gorgeous, mature, terraced gardens overlooking the Dordogne River Valley.

Let me share a little more about the glorious town of Beynac and while this is the ideal location for your vacation...whether you arrive from the East or from the West, stunning views of the town invite you as you approach this Medieval cliffside town. You will find your breath taken away as you observe the little golden buildings with their antique tile roofs nestled amongst each other as they overlook the lovely river Dordogne. Like us, you'll be shocked that such a lovely place even exists! It will feel surreal as you spend your days enjoying all the Dordogne has to offer. There will be no question in your mind as to why Beynac is listed as one of the Most Beautiful Villages in France (Les Plus Beaux Villages de France)

La Maisonnette is the ideal landing pad for visiting the other small, picturesque villages in the area, and for enjoying other sights as well. Make sure you visit the Marqueyssac Gardens, the Lascaux Caves (oldest art on the earth), the famed outdoor market in nearby Sarlat, the 5 chateau within 5 minutes of Beynac, and take a canoe or boat ride down the river for unexpected and amazing views. And don't forget to take a tour of the castle you'll be staying right next to (the windows of La Maisonnette look out upon the old castle walls and the old city walls as well); the Chateau of Beynac is one of the best preserved in France. You'll feel as if you stepped back to the 12th century!

Magical!
The most amazing place we have ever stayed in! This historical, darling, little cottage has been lovingly restored & so beautifully & thoughtfully decorated. We loved having a dishwasher, AC & good size washer & dryer. The book of instructions & tips for our stay was so helpful. I would highly recommend going on a hot air balloon ride, kayaking down the river (the 2 hour option was a perfect amount of time) & visiting some of the markets that are listed in the information binder. We didn’t want to leave & can’t wait to return!!

Amazing Place
Where to begin? The host that met us was amazing (we spoke some french, she only speaks French-she was patient and gracious). The location is AMAZING. Bring your walking shoes. The local residents are very welcoming into their neighborhood. The food! Magnificent! The area has so much to do-shopping, museums, history! A wealth of activities! The balloons every morning launching from the fields below were a wonderful surprise to see. Even though I hesitate to share because I want

Blissful Escape
We had a wonderful stay at La Maisonette, nestled scenically at the base of the historic castle/fort of Beynac. The property was immaculately clean and easy to "figure out" (air systems, stove, wifi, etc.) thanks to really clear instructions from the owner and a very responsive and friendly local property manager. If you like to sit out quietly with your morning coffee, there is a quiet, serene garden. The town is not touristy (at least not in September) and a good base to explore the Dordogne River valley. We were very comfortable there and being light sleepers, loved the still, quiet nights. Also, no traffic as the house is off a pedestrian-only medieval lane with a parking lot up the road about 75 meters. All in all, a great place to call home for several days.

Charming home
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this lovely cottage. The host has written a very helpful orientation which I recommend the guests read as the caretaker doesn’t speak English and was difficult for me to understand with my intermediate French. The house was immaculate and all appliances worked.

A great stay in Beynac
Exceptionally nice place to stay with a very helpful guide to the house, town and neighborhood. Emma, who let us in was very helpful. Expect some steps up or down to the house, but it’s right next to the castle, and immaculately kept. And the views of the hot air balloons floating down the Dordogne is not to be missed!

A perfect family break in beautiful Beynac
Situated perfectly beside the iconic chateau, La Maisonette is a beautiful and comfortable hideaway, ideal for accessing the little town of Beynac. The town (in late August), despite being a significant tourist destination, is actually pretty quiet early on and in the evenings, especially up by the chateau. Most mornings you’ll hear the church bells singing out into the valley below, accompanied by the subtle burn of a couple of hot air balloons heading out over the chateau. It’s gorgeous in every direction and suited our party of two grandparents, two more standard parents and two children (aged 8 and nearly 5) right down to the ground. The terraced garden provided a fabulous warren for (supervised) adventures with swords and shields from the chateau. If you’re planning on sitting out at night it’s worth investing in a citronella candle or two, just to help keep the odd interested wasp at bay. Inside the house, we loved the layout and exceptionally high standard of finish. Our hosts couldn’t have been more helpful with an in-depth guide to the area and house itself, and the right amount of advance communication. Finally, while the walk down to the house is fairly steep, and the one down to the town itself much more so, it is so worth doing and staying here. To have such access to the region, and to a place people tend to visit for only one day, has been a wonderful change and an opportunity to “vivre comme les français.”

Lots of character, fantastic surroundings
The cottage and castle grounds are beautiful. The cottage’s first floor has the kitchen, dining and small sitting area which is comfortable and air conditioned. The 2nd floor has two bedrooms, bathroom with a small shower and sitting room. This floor is not air conditioned which was difficult to tolerate when the temperatures outside were 90+. The 3rd floor has a king bed, a tub, sink and toilet (no shower) and IS air conditioned. The beds were very comfortable. My main complaint is a lack of shelves or drawers to unpack to. There was only a hanger rack so we had to leave most everything in the suitcase on the floor for the week, meanwhile having to be careful not to hit your head on the sloped ceiling on the 3rd floor. All in all it is a lovely cottage but definitely not for those who are not somewhat fit and agile.

Oh. The View.
For anyone thinking of a special place to spend time in the Dordogne Valley...this is it. Beautiful accommodations atop the winding steps to Castle Beynac. You feel like you are up among the clouds -- with a medieval castle at your front door. The sunrises are awesome. The castle at night is amazing. In the midst of a record busting heat wave in France, the cottage was cool and welcoming. Impeccable. Elly was always most gracious and helpful. Thank you, Ben. You've created an amazing space for people to make memories. I know we did. Simply wonderful.

Great location and very special house
You can already tell from so many previous reviews that this property. However, upon arrival it's better than expected. Modern coveniences including A/C which is not that common in the Perigord area. Location was spectacular. Elly, the manager was super accomodating. All this for a very reasonable price! Thanks Ben for sharing your amazing little country house

Amazing village house in the Dordogne!
We had an incredible time in the Dordogne last month. La Maisonette is an amazing property--beautifully decorated and filled with thoughtful touches. The countryside was gorgeous and, in late November, we had the entire region all to ourselves. Martine was a really super onsite resource and was able to assist us with reservations, traffic reports, and general questions. This was a dream location and a wonderful trip! Subtracting one star because it was sometimes quite difficult to get a response from the owner. And although Martine was awesome, we were told another person (an English speaker) would be the person onsite. It caught us off guard to receive a voicemail out of the blue from a French-only speaker who said she would be meeting us. Just something to be aware of in case you (or someone in your party) doesn't speak French--there may not be an English speaker available.

A great place to stay in a stunningly beautiful part of the world.
The luxurious cottage was just that. Beautifully appointed with old world charm and modern conveniences. Sometimes we went out to eat and sometimes we stayed in and had really enjoyable movie nights. It is a place to feel really comfortable in. The garden at the cottage, the fabulous castle next door and the wee town of Beynac et Cazenac would have been enough on their own. However, add La Roque Gagenac, Sarlat and Domme in addition to stunning chateaux and gardens in the area make the cottage the ideal base to explore one of the most stunning regions of the world. The only negative is the rather steep and rugged pathway from the car park to the cottage. However, this and the steep walk to the town shops and restaurants are offset by the stunning views to be had at every twist and turn during the walk. It really was a fantastic experience for us.

Great place to stay in Beynac
The property is located near the Beynac Chateau. It is a beautiful location with a great view. The cottage is well organized and has everything you need to be comfortable. The town of Beynac is delightful with great restaurants. There are also fun things to do in town or near Beynac like canoeing on the Dordogne River, hot air ballooning and visiting prehistoric caves with beautiful paintings.

unique stay
We went as two couples and stayed a few nights. The place is amazing. We used the patio almost every night having wine and cheese. The only thing I would point out that we didn't realize is that the bedroom with the claw foot tub does not have a private bathroom area. It is part of the open bedroom area. But we loved every minute and also beat the line at the castle because we were already there. Thank you Ben and we would love to stay again someday!

Gorgeous village and property; fabulous location.
We absolutely loved Beynac and this unique and beautiful cottage. The cottage is across the steep and narrow path separating it from the castle. The views are spectacular. We particularly loved the private garden/terrace where we had breakfast every day, and wine and cheese snacks every afternoon. The VRBO pics are fair and accurate. The property is rustic but impeccably maintained and has a gourmet stove that we will sorely miss! The town of Beynac is incredibly charming, with a number of wonderful restaurants. It is also well-situated to visit Sarlat, Domme and other lovely nearby towns. In short, this is a unique town and a unique and lovely property.

Amazing location, beautiful property
This place is like out of a fairy tale - so glad we chose to explore this wonderful corner of France! The property lives up to its billing. Ben was delightful to deal with and answered all my questions promptly. His orientation guide should be the gold standard for all vrbo owners! It's HOT in the summer so we really appreciated the air conditioning. All told, a truly memorable stay... Our favorite activity was the early morning hot air balloon ride - sailing gently over the many castles in this area is something we'll never forget

Magical - next door to majestic wonder.
This place was amazing. Only issue, the dryer is useless. i get that the appliance may be very different in France - but when you clothes come out of the dryer wetter than when they went in, its time to buy a new system or provide an outside clothes line. Option 2 - bring enough clothes for your entire trip. Highly recommend the Farm to Table dinner - can't remember the name of the place right now, but it was 5 star! I will post on it when I get hope. Ben Brubaker and Elly we great VRBO owner and property hosts. It was a week in fairly tale land. Food, food and food... canoe ride down Dordogne, a cave trip to Grottes de Cougnac and the Castle, oh yes the spectacular Castle. Don't for get to walk up the back side to see the church and the beautiful scenic view of the river. If you get a chance to go to this rustic place, never pass it up! Noah Fritz

Breathtaking cottage _ but Beynac is sleepy in the off-season
This is a beautiful, thoughtfully restored home that is a pleasure to stay in. There was plenty of room for our family and all the amenities we needed, including a well-stocked kitchen, comfortable beds and fluffy towels. The views from the cottage are stunning. But two things to keep in mind. First, we visited the week before Easter (April 1). We had counted on eating at the two restaurants near the cottage, but both were closed because it was off-season. All of the shops near the cottage and many of the shops in town were also closed. We ended up driving to other towns for dinner. Second, please be aware that it's a steep walk to the cottage from the parking lot and a strenuous walk down into town to the grocery store. Beynac is beautiful, and it's a lovely walk if you're up for it, but some guests may not be.

Lovely house - wonderful stay
Very interesting old house high up next to the Chateau in Beynac where we’ve spent three relaxing weeks. Maisonette du Cote is very comfortable and warm, very well set up and despite having to park up by the Chateau, we didn’t find this a problem. In fact, as other guests have mentioned, the walk up and down the cobblestones is good exercise. Martine, the affable housekeeper, met us on arrival and showed us through the house. She then cleaned for us twice and became a source of information and we really enjoyed our ‘conversations en Francais’ with her. Lovely walks around the little lanes and villages and along the flooded Dordogne and we were starting to feel like locals. We revisited many places we’d previously been in this area and discovered many new ones. Like so many others we have now fallen for the Dordogne and hope to return next year to see the walnut orchards in blossom. We highly recommend this charming property

Gorgeous Cottage in Picturesque Village
Our family had such a wonderful stay at the cottage next to the castle. The house has been beautifully remodeled. It has everything you need and more. It was very easy to get in contact with Martina and she couldn’t have been nicer. She was so helpful when we first arrived. Thank you so much. Our second visit -- as magical as the first!
This was our second time at La Maisonnette, and again we decided to come in the middle of winter. Almost no tourists, so peaceful, with cool weather and a slow pace--just how we like it. I raved about La Maisonnette last time, and it was just as magical this time around, too. Thanks, Ben and Stephanie.

We hate to let the world know about this spectacular place
We have stayed in many beautiful places throughout the world, but the Maisonette is as charming and special as any. The owners have created a beautiful and comfortable house that is also in a magical location next to the Beynac Castle. The finishes are top notch; the location is so tranquil and special and even the walk down the cobblestone path ceases to be an issue once you see the cottage. We were there in November. It was cold outside, especially at night -- but the cottage was warm temperature-wise and warm and inviting as an environment. The area around Beynac is full of interesting places to visit, great food and a feeling that you are in the "real France". We left reluctantly. If we didn't have reservations for the next days, we would have been on the phone with the owners to extend.

Perfectly Charming Cottage Next to Chateau Beynac
This home was perfect for our stay! We were 5 adults (some family, some friends) traveling in the Dodorgne together. The house was simply and beautifully decorated with plenty of amenities to make our stay feel like home. The views from the upper rooms of the house are picture perfect. We spent every day in the garden and had our afternoon, after-day trip wine on the terrace enjoying the sunset over the castle and Dordogne river below. The owner responsed quickly to our questions. The orientation guide provided was very helpful for directions; guiding us to restaurants, shopping and sites, Elly, our contact for the key and house details was wonderfully helpful, responsive and kind. There is bit of a walk to the house. We all appreciated the exercise and views! This house made our stay in the Dordogne even more magical!

Absolutely beautiful property, wonderful grounds and incredible views of the castle, the countryside and the river. The location is wonderful but it is an extremely arduous climb to get to the parking area. If you have any restrictions on a steep slope of slick cobblestones beware.
