It was a very basic room. We had a large familly room. Beds were comfy enough. You could hear the bar music until closing time and then people in the brekafast hall from 0630. The location was good for our needs, staff were polite and helpful.

This is such a historic building but a recent refurbishment has not been kind. Still, the bed was very comfy and the location is handy for town. Rooms are basic. You have to ask for tea making facilities and a hairdryer. The bathroom, though new and very clean, lacks hanging rails and hooks so towels end up on door handles or the floor. Didn’t eat here so can’t comment. Wifi patchy, television channels random. Quiet and comfortable, an adequate budget stay.

The hotel is very nice looking, lots to do around it. Friendly staff. Food and drinks until late. Not so good - Unexpected £50 cash deposit required, paper thin walls, no towel rail/hooks, no shaver plug in wall and no option for cleaning room during your stay.

Disappointing
To start with, the manageress insisted we change rooms as we would find the original (very small one) very noisy because of their evening entertainment and clientele. That’s the positive. However the room was cold and there was no hot water. This was rectified for the first night, but our second night the water was cold again, but the room was warmer. There was no hairdryer, no kettle, no glasses for water There was no pug in the bathroom basin and the toilet was difficult to flush Breakfast was served on cold plates, so food was only lukewarm as was the coffee. The manageress did her best and we must commend her for that, but not sure her staff are helping her much

Avoid at all costs
Really old hotel, quaint as you go in through huge wooden doors, quirky floors, uneven and characterful. That’s where the enjoyment ends. Rooms disgusting, cold and damp smelling. Room 103 bulbs missing from lights, hangers with no rail to hang clothes on. Poor decor that is mismatched, poorly painted. Room 307, big room, even with the one small electrical heater on, it didn’t heat the room. Noise all night from the front street, might as well not had any windows in a it was that cold and noisy. The bathroom was utterly disgusting, stuff that I don’t have a clue what it was splattered across the wall, leaking bath and sink, mould all round. Toilet roll holder fitted behind and above the cistern. Cobwebs and dust everywhere. If this place was on 4 in a bed, they would be paying the guests to stay.

Very disappointing.
There were only 2 English-speaking staff on duty when I tried to book in. They were extremely busy in both the bar and the hotel side. I was shown my room which was adequate in that there was clean bedding and a clean bathroom. However there was no tea/coffee making facilities, no glass for me to have water and it wasn't possible to put the bedside locker properly by the bed. Overall the room was too small for 2 people, thank goodness I was travelling alone. I could hear the man next door to me snoring and knew that he was woken up as well by the men. At breakfast I was served by a young man who spoke no English and who didn't understand that I wanted to be shown to the dining room rather than standing at reception and being shown a menu of "what you want breakfast" and to choose from the 3 items he pointed at. Breakfast itself was delicious and well presented. I was woken at midnight by 2 drunk/drug-addled men shouting and making a noise in reception and who seemed to know the staff who tried to diffuse an escalating situation. They eventually left but one of them returned at woke me up at 2am. I was very frightened because I didn't want to leave the room to go to reception and tell them to be quiet and I didn't have a phone in my room to let reception know that I was extremely upset and worried. I sincerely believe that one of the men came back in the morning to work there, although I never saw anyone. I recognised the awful cough that he had the night before.

Strange staff member
You get what you pay for but one of the nights i was trying to sleep, a member of staff tried the door and got in, he was shocked that i was in there and questioned what he was doing. His response was Im making sure yoy have a remote control for your television, which was really strange. I couldn't imagine what he would of done if i hadn't been there.

There has clearly been some recent renovations to the rooms and building and my room was spotless and comfortable. The room facilities are basic but I would definitely class the hotel as good value for money. The freshly cooked breakfast is definitely a positive

We stayed at the Talbot hotel for one night for a wedding that took place at the hotel. I booked three double rooms inadvance on booking . Com . On arrival two rooms were twin rooms ,which these were changed . The room allocated had no window to open, no beaker in the bathroom to brush our teeth, and no tea of coffee in the room. The room was very warm this room needs a fan . On a positive note the hotel is super clean 👌 and the wedding was amazing 👏

Nice room but lacked the basics
This place had clearly been recently refurbished to a good standard but the room lacked some things - no towel rail, rubbish bin or even a mug/plastic cup to have a drink of water. A few minor additons could make a big difference.

Old coaching inn with wonky floors and creaking stairs, but a clean and comfy. Good English breakfast.
