About this property

Entire place

You'll have the entire apartment to yourself and will only share it with other guests in your party.

Panoramic view, large deck, ground floor apartment, walk to subway and beach

This ground-floor apartment with private entrance has lovely hill-side, ocean and tree-line views. High on the peaceful and historic Jones Hill, less than a half mile from Savin Hill Station on the Red Line Subway, it combines the transportation convenience of the city with the giant leafy trees, rolling yards, horizon harbor view, and charming architecture of this old established residential area. Wood floors, white walls, large decks, long views--a relaxing place to stay, fully furnished and fully equipped. Just open your suitcase and you are home!

No need to risk bad air in shared elevators--instead, you'll have your very own private outdoor entrance. No risk from sharing indoor exercise rooms, instead you can set up your gear in your own private glassed-in porch, or plant flowers out in the back garden, or just walk over to enjoy the local tennis courts and beach, or explore the near-by bike paths that go from Castle Island to Savin Hill to Neponset and beyond.

The ample private deck area allows you to safely re-connect with family and friends outdoors, and the apartment itself has great cross-ventilation. The apartment receives both morning and afternoon sun, in fact watching the sun come up over the harbor from the porch or dining area is a special reward for early risers. This is a great space for some one who works from home because there is a dedicated work alcove with desk, and three other places you could set up for a little variety. But it is also excellent for a medical person, as we are only a ten minute bus ride from the BU Medical Center, and twelve minutes by subway to Mass General. If you are on a surgical rotation and only want to rent for a few months, let us know, that could be arranged.

From the spacious back porch and living room area, you have a panoramic view of a long hillside stretching all the way down to Boston Harbor in the distance, with 100-year-old trees, charming gardens, and varied historic architecture to liven it up (including a friendly family of three wild turkeys that occasionally roost up in the trees!).

The apartment has a galley kitchen with full size appliances attached to a pleasant glassed-in conservatory overlooking the garden, just right for a cup of coffee in the morning. A living/dining room with cherry-wood table and comfortable convertible sofa, a separate bedroom with a queen-size bed and large closet, and a bathroom including a shower, complete the apartment. All is furnished and the kitchen is equipped with the basics, so just bring a suitcase! The interior is 516 square feet approx, the exterior decks add an addition 235 square feet.

There is a full-service market near the subway with an excellent selection of fresh vegetables, meat and fish, pasta and desserts. There are also plenty of restaurants for good take-out food, and a pharmacy, all within easy walking distance.

This is a quiet neighborhood with a lot of professionals and medical workers, in particular because we have good transportation connections to BU Medical Center and several community health centers. We are also a fast ride on the reliable Red Line to MGH and Cambridge. Savin Hill Station on the reliable Red Line is less than half a mile away (10-12 minutes walk) so you won't need a car; but if you have one, on-street parking is plentiful, especially on our nearest cross-street, and no permit needed.

I am a health psychologist and music therapist, and speak Italian and French because of having grown up in Italy.

Your rental fee includes basic cable/wifi, heat and hot water and electricity; heat is baseboard gas heat, so the apartment temperature is very comfortable year round. The apartment is most comfortable for two persons, but it can sleep four for shorter visits. We regret that we cannot permit any animals of any kind, even small ones or exceptionally well-trained ones, nor is any smoking allowed inside or behind the building nor on the porches and decks, due to my family's health conditions. There is a pleasant smoking area with chairs and table in the front yard.

Great location for visiting Boston
We stayed here for 4 nights. The location is great as only a short walk to Savin Hill station which is on the red line with frequent trains into the centre of Boston. Approx 20 mins to Park Street which is stop for Boston Common, where the Freedom Trails begins. If you want to stay in a quieter location then this is definitely the place to stay. The accommodation is in need of updating but as we were out sightseeing most of the time, this did not bother us. We really liked the Savin Hill area as there was everything you needed - a bar, a few restaurants/cafes, grocery/essential stores and a beach. Well worth visiting is the JFK Library, especially if you can get on one of the free tours. You only need to get off at the first stop - JFK/UMass where you can pick up a free shuttle service to the library.

Nice for a short visit to Boston
Small but adequate for 2 nights visiting Boston. Listing indicates it is walking distance to a beach (its a mile) and train station (its a half mile). So "walking distance" is subjective. There were 2 cans of vegetables in the pantry with expiration dates in 2017. The shower is weird..2 shower heads and it took my mechanical engineer husband a good 10 minutes to figure out how to work it. Back deck was nice in the morning. No off street parking, which i did not care for, but we knew that going in and were lucky to snag the spot in front of the house. The house is on a steep hill but if you are willing and able, its within a half mile of a corner grocery and a couple restaurants. Kitchen is sufficiently stocked for cooking simple meals (perfect for us to make breakfast both mornings!) It was clean and comfortable. Hosts were helpful and delightful.

A pleasant stay
We enjoyed a lovely couple of nights in Boston. After a little fautly start, we settled in, finding little touches which made our stay more comfortable and pleasant, .like coffee in the morning compliments of our host. Proximity to shops, subway and the small but pleasant Malibu Beach added to our stay. It was a very short visit but memorable. If we coukd, we would come back!
