  • The Basilica of the Holy Blood is a Roman Catholic minor basilica in Bruges, Belgium. Originally built in the 12th century as the chapel of the residence of the Count of Flanders, the church houses a venerated relic of the Holy Blood allegedly collected by Joseph of Arimathea and brought from the Holy Land by Thierry of Alsace, Count of Flanders. Built between 1134 and 1157, it was promoted to minor basilica in 1923. The 12th-century basilica is located in the Burg square and consists of a lower and upper chapel. The lower chapel dedicated to St. Basil the Great is a dark Romanesque structure that remains virtually unchanged. The venerated relic is in the upper chapel, which was rebuilt in the Gothic style during the 16th century and renovated multiple times during the 19th century in Gothic Revival style. Bruges is the capital and largest city of the province of West Flanders in the Flemish Region of Belgium, in the northwest of the country. The historic city centre is a prominent World Heritage Site of UNESCO. Along with a few other canal-based northern cities, such as Amsterdam, it is sometimes referred to as The Venice of the North. Bruges has a significant economic importance thanks to its port and was once one of the world's chief commercial cities. Everything about our stay was perfect! Hans and Tamara were so welcoming and friendly. The building was fantastic, full of history, close to the main area but very peaceful. Our room was lovely and the breakfast amazing! I would highly recommend!!!’

Beautiful B&B, in a lovely quiet area of Bruges. Short walking distance to Christmas Markets. Hosts are very friendly and accommodating. Good parking with electric charging. Lovely comfortable bed, great shower. Breakfast was very good. Overall great place.

Special place

Lovingly renovated tannery from the Middle Ages by a charming and kind couple. Very new and tasteful with great breakfast overlooking canal St Anna. Right outside the main tourist drag in residential quite but central area.Was a highlight of our trip to Belgium!

Our stay at Quay 17 in April was wonderful!! The property is so beautiful and sits right near one of the canals. Our room was so comfy and I loved the decor and everything about it was perfect. Breakfast was so tasty and had a wide assortment of food. The owners were so welcoming and made us feel right at home. I would definitely stay here again in a heartbeat!!

The property, I think, is off the 16th century, re-furnished and maintained to a very high standard. The fittings and furnnishings all speak of quality. The hosts, Tamara and Haans, are extremely helpful and friendly, whilst at the same time, are not intrusive. The Positionof the property is such that all places of interest in the old section of the town are all accessible by walking within about 10 minutes .Breakfast is exceptionally good. I would have no hesitation in recommending this property to anyone.

Amazing Stay

Wonderful hosts and a beautiful home. Would highly recommend. Breakfast was great and the story of renovating this brewery and finding the recipe and using it to brew the same beer was incredible.
