Spend time in this huge green space, which was created on an old U.S. army base and today boasts a plethora of attractions alongside abundant nature.

No trip to Busan would be complete without spending time in the impressive Busan Citizens Park. Encompassing a vast area of the city center, the park boasts huge tracts of woodland interspersed with little streams, children’s play areas, museums, cultural attractions and picnic zones.

Busan Citizens Park has an interesting history. Until 2006 it was known as Camp Hialeah and was a United States army base. Following years of negotiations, the land was returned to South Korean ownership. Plans were immediately put in place to create a beautiful and natural space in the middle of the urban jungle. Venture down to the enormous park to appreciate the incredible array of attractions it now offers, or simply to relax away from the hubbub of the city.

The park was created with both locals and visitors in mind and was structured around the five themes of Memory, Culture, Pleasure, Nature and Participation. It prides itself on its excellent facilities and has modern CCTV technology in every corner of the park to ensure the area is kept safe. Free wireless internet is also available throughout the park.

Appreciate the diverse flora of the park as you wander the paths. Stroll among over a million trees of 97 different species. Explore a long stretch of the babbling Bujeoncheon Stream. Discover trickling fountains, fish-laden ponds, secluded copses and colorful flower beds. Be sure not to miss the stunning King Cherry Tree Trail when it is in bloom.

Culture and history play an important role in the attractions within the park. Take your children to the Culture and Art Village, the History Museum or the Library. There are places to enjoy a picnic on the grass, a café and playgrounds galore.

Busan Citizens Park is located in the heart of Busan city and is accessible from any side. Visit the park anytime from the early morning until late in the evening, when the gates close. Different attractions within the park may have different opening hours.
