Secluded River Cabin Retreat with Outdoor Bathhouse and Kayaks

Looking for a place to get away from it all? Don't want any neighbors nearby? Our Cabin-in-the-Woods is the perfect retreat for anniversaries, honeymoons, or just a quiet place to escape by yourselves. Enjoy views of the river and Ouachita Mountains from the wrap around porch while you drink your morning coffee. Swim, kayak, tube, or paddle boat in the wide section of river at the base of the steps. Hike some trails through 80 acres of pine forest and hills. Enjoy bathing in the outdoor bathhouse while enjoying the secluded view. There is no chlorinated pool, but the clear river and bathhouse are even better!

The deck includes a grill and patio furniture, as well as two porch swings and chairs. There are 118 steps down to the river since the cabin sits high above the surrounding hills. The views on the way down are beautiful, and the hike on the way back up will leave you breathless! :-)

Both sides of the river are part of the property, and no other cabin or home sits on the 80 acres to help provide that true secluded get-away experience! The property enjoys 1/3 mile of riverfront and has about 4 miles of private trails.

Note: This cabin is also listed for up to six people in another listing for a higher rate. This listing and lower rate are provided separately since we assume that a couple will require less cleaning and lower wear and tear for our cabin. Ask us about our honeymoon discount.
Dogs for couples only will be considered if they do not shed, do not chew or scratch, and will be kept clean. A pet fee is required. Contact owner before booking.
The final 1/2 mile to the cabin is a rough dirt road. A small suv or truck is recommended, but a car should be okay if the weather is dry. This is a cabin in the woods, so even though we strive to keep it very clean, you may encounter some spiderwebs, bugs, and other nature.
Three security cameras are located outside. Two point at the driveway area, and the other points toward the river. They may be turned off (if they aren't already off).

Just stunning... loved the view, hiking trails, kayaking on the river. Cabin was cozy and deck was awesome. Beware lots of stairs to climb down and up from the river. Built camp fires in the fire pits on top by the cabin and down by the river. Just perfect for the cool weather at night. Love love love!!

Wonderful seclusion
We spent 7 days at this cabin for our wedding anniversary. We were very happy with the cabin and the amenities. We used the outdoor shower every day. Only time we used the indoor shower was on a day with bad weather. The shuffle board upstairs was also a lot of fun. Kitchen had everything we needed. Since laundry facilities were available we didn't need to bring a ton of clothes. Wifi was adequate. Easy drive to Hot Springs where we visited the casino. The weather was hot the first two days of our trip. Around 100 degrees. But we set our chairs in the shade in the river and just relaxed and enjoyed ourselves. The water was cool and crystal clear. We used hiking sticks to help keep our balance as we waded across the river. The day we arrived the dirt road to the cabin was in tough shape. It was a challenge to get up the last hill with our SUV. On the second day the county graded the road and added gravel which made the road rather easy to drive on, but watch out if the road is wet. Mud on your tires will make it harder to get up the hill. We fixed our own meals most of the time. Great grocery store in town. Everything else closes early including restaurants. We didn't see a soul while at the cabin. Sitting in the river listening to birds and watching the fish was a pleasure. Just the kind of unwind time we were looking for. We had a couple minor maintenance issues and the owner was extremely responsive. Very happy with our choice.

This was everything we hoped for and more! The place is fantastic, the vibes are immaculate. If you want to get away in a comfortable way, this is the spot!! Mr. Todd was a very excellent host and the property is fantastic for nature lovers who want somewhere cozy to return to at the end of the day. Great for a small group to spend time with each other away from the hustle and bustle of daily life!

If you want to get the heck out of town, go here. Seclusion. Water. Views. Hiking on property. If you want a workout go down to the river 3 times a day and forget something down there that last trip. Those stairs made me and my dog feel really old. It was well worth it. My son fished most of the day, from sun up til dinner. If you or your teen likes to fish, you won’t be disappointed. He fished what seemed like countless spots just walking the trails on the bank. He spent the better part of 2 days paddling up and down as far as he could on the Kayak. We spent a rainy day on the arcade game (bring spare change, $5 in quarters lasted hours) and playing shuffle board in the loft bedroom. I should also mention with cell service at a minimum, the wifi did its job. We were able to text, email, and most importantly stream shows each night. I know it sounds bad when you have such amazing stargazing, sounds and natural beauty around you, but these are the times we live in. I know I personally want to know this specific detail before I book an extended visit. I hope there is a next time and I hope others take advantage of such a great property.

Weekend away with friends.
We loved everything about this place. The host was very communicative and accommodating. The seclusion and tranquility was amazing. It was 100+ degrees the entire time, so we very rarely left the river. The stairs down/up from the river are definitely not for the faint of heart. We would definitely book again.

Beautiful seclusion
We wanted complete seclusion and to be on the water. We got both. We didn't see another person the entire stay. The owners were very accommodating about our dogs. We have two big dogs and are both very well behaved. We like taking them with us when we go on vacation. Its hard to find anyone that will allow two big dogs. Our rottie absolutely loves the water. It was hard to get her to want to come out of the lake. The property is so beautiful. And a wonderful reminder of how much God loves us. There is a cross with a bench to sit on in front of it close to the cabin. That was a nice touch. We will definitely be back again.

Amazing Solitude and Tranquility
We recently spent 4 nights at the cabin and we cannot express enough how wonderful we found everything to be. The location was ideal and everything was exactly, if not better, than described in the listing. The host communication was excellent and the cabin guide provided was impressive in it's detail and scale. We did not see or hear another person our entire stay there. We hiked all 5 miles of the trails, tubed the river, kayaked the river and floated the river over and over again. The deck spaces and views were amazing and our only complaint was the excessive heat limited our activities. We plan to return during a cooler season. The cabin was immaculately clean and the kitchen was exceptionally well stocked with pantry staple items. It was very hard to leave and we are already planning another visit.

Anniversary Getaway
My husband and I spent 4 nights here celebrating our 17 year anniversary, and it couldn't have been more perfect. The location was wonderfully secluded where we could spend time with just us. The kitchen was well stocked, as were essential items like toilet paper, paper towels, spices, etc. The outdoor bathhouse was such an awesome addition. We didn't even use the indoor shower! I had to text Todd a couple of times, and he was super responsive and helpful. He even came out while we were away to fix the ladder at the water after it broke during our stay. When we weren't out crystal digging, we were kayaking on the river and fishing or swimming. It was such an awesome visit, and we hope to bring our kids to Thunder Mountain in the near future! We really think they'll love it just as much as we did!

We celebrated our 41st anniversary. We walked the trails and explored most of the 80 acres. The steps are for young people but we made it! Quite place to hang out. We grilled every night. The weather was wonderful for March! Very clean. I texted Todd once. He responded quickly and answered my question! I do recommend this place!

Absolutely Remarkable and Romantic Place to Stay
The owner goes above and beyond in making sure this place exceeds expectations. We never ran out of things to do here on our honeymoon. From movie nights, to arcade games, to shuffleboard/ladder ball, to the campfires, kayaking, hiking trails on the property, plus all of the attractions within easy driving distance. 11/10 would recommend to anyone looking for a secluded and quiet place to get away from the world. Did not have cell service at the cabin, but the WiFi provided gave me access to everything I needed during our stay. Again, Todd, Gary and Lynna went above and beyond to help us have the perfect honeymoon. I can't say enough good about them!

Absolutely amazing!
Thunder Mountain Cabin Where to start? Todd is truly an outstanding host. He gave us a heads up on the weather the day before our arrival. He even gave us an update the morning of. He answered our questions throughout our trip without hesitation. The steep hill coming up the cabin is definitely best for small SUVs or trucks and tends to be slippery when wet. We rented the cabin for a week. This cabin had everything you could possibly need. A food store (Wright’s Food Center) is less than 20 minutes away. The cabin was so clean and equipped with everything you need, including a washer & dryer, towels, lots of extra blankets, shuffle board, arcade game, board games, Roku TV, and space heaters (that were already on prior to our arrival, which made the cabin even more inviting). The front and back porch are incredible to sit and relax on- both have beautiful views. The stairs (all 142 of them) are quite the workout when you come back from the river, but totally worth it. The outdoor bathhouse was really neat too. We got to see so much wildlife out here. Todd even had extra fishing poles and fishing accessories. If you need some time to get away and enjoy nature, this is your place. 10/10 recommend:)

Beautiful and peaceful place to stay. We are in our 50's and it was perfect for a relaxing getaway. If you bring children or teenagers (it was just the two of us), it might be better to come in the summer because there is more to do with the river. It was perfect for us though.
