During the 1988 Winter Olympics, it embodied the Olympic torch, with a huge gas cauldron on the top lighting up the sky. The tower’s distinctive shape not only makes it an iconic part of the Calgary skyline, but also affords it flexibility, allowing it to withstand high winds. The tower also offers dining closer to the ground at the steakhouse on the second level.Calgary Tower is located in downtown, on the corner of Ninth Avenue and Centre Street. Several bus routes stop nearby and it’s just a short walk from the tower to downtown train stations. You can also reach the tower on the +15 Skywalk, a public pedestrian walkway 15 feet (4.5 meters) above street level that connects many buildings in the city. The tower is open daily except Christmas Day, and the Observation Deck is occasionally closed for public functions. The admission fee allows same day re-entry if you show your stamp and receipt.
