Nice large room with the essentials you need. Other reviews are picky with the “outdated room” but they need to lighten up. Hotel is located in a great location with a Beautiful view outside. Bed is comfy, room is clean, toilet is strong, water pressure in shower is strong abs nice hot water. Owner/manager is very nice with great customer service. Towels are well stocked, if you need more just ask. The driveway is dark at night.. but luckily I have headlights built in my car to see when I drive.
This is our third stay at Black Horse this year, all for week long stays. We love the hotel, it is an older hotel, but very clean, comfortable, owners are so friendly and helpful. Wonderful complimentary breakfast every morning.
Wall paper in the bathroom was falling off. Microwave didn’t work refrigerator wasn’t cold, freezer didn’t work well. TV very very old and small. Toilet paper was sitting on top of toilet, not in the dispenser. Stingy on towels, no extra blanket or pillows.
Liked: Manager, Susan, is very nice and personable. Her sweet little dog, Lilly, was a joy to watch.
Didn't like: Poor driveway lighting. We arrived after dark, and had a difficult time seeing the driveway entrance to the inn. We ran into an 8 inch high asphalt triangle at the mouth of the driveway which we could not see due to the poor lighting. Also, inn has only a handicap elevator to move between the 1st and 2nd floor. This makes it hard to move luggage up to the 2nd floor via stairs.
Set back from the US1 highway on a large we'll maintained parcel. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Conveniently located close to historic Camden and Dublin and Camden State Park
The lady who runs the place work incredibly hard to make people feel welcome. She cooks, cleans, runs the desk and still has time to engage in conversation. I was really impressed.
The Black Horse Inn is a cosy lodging and Susan, the manager is a funny and friendly host! We were there for four days and it’s a perfect spot to discover that beautiful area of Maine. Very calm, the rooms are large and comfortable. Frank the housekeeper makes all efforts to have the rooms very clean. Breakfast is prepared by Susan every day when she bakes delicious muffins, Nutella croissants or cinnamon rolls. It’s a continental menu but she includes boiled eggs. You feel at home in the dining area and talking to her. She gives you good tips on restaurants nearby. Not leave without having a delicious lobster at McLaughin on Lincolnville Beach! Discover Camden, Rockport, Acadia Park and Bar Harbor during your stay. Recommended!
When having stayed at an Inn or B&B, I've always had a great breakfast. In my honest opinion, it didn't even qualify as a good continental breakfast. They offered muffins, bagels and cereal. As you entered the lobby it had Christmas and Halloween decorations?? It was a wee bit tacky. As you entered the lobby, there was also another room beside it which was a sitting area and bar which was covered with linens and misc.
It’s a great property and the rooms are designed almost in a early 20th century decor. The check in process is a bit clunky. When you arrive there is no one at the front desk, with no clear sign on how to call an attendant. The prior time I stayed here there were 2 groups in front of me also looking to check in. This time I called the facility on my cell phone which got the attendant back to the check in desk.
Otherwise they were very friendly and the room was clean. Set back off the road so lower traffic noise from route 1.
