Over 20 exhibits ranging from a gravity wall to a submarine make Mashpee’s interactive museum a great place to entertain children.

Cape Cod Children’s Museum opens up a world of discovery for kids. Located in the quaint town in Mashpee, it offers an alternative entertainment to the beaches and shopping that the area is famous for.

The museum is actually a massive room cordoned off into different exhibits. Children are invited to discover their way through the museum at their own speed. It is set up less like a museum and more like an educational play center.

Many of the exhibits demystify scientific theories. Understand the Bernoulli Principle through bright levitating beach balls. Experience the power of gravity on a giant wall maze.

Children can let their imaginations run wild in the various play exhibits. Pretend to be a fearsome captain at sea in the Pirate Ship. Explore the ocean’s depths in the large submarine. Dabble in construction in the life-size tree house.

Puzzle and craft tables allow children to use their problem-solving skills and creativity. Bang on the drums or play a tune on the mini piano in the Music Room.

In case you work up an appetite during all your exploring, the museum allows you to leave for a bite to eat and then reenter that day. Within a 5-minute drive, you can reach an array of restaurants, cafes and diners. If it’s nice out, pack a picnic lunch to enjoy on the picnic tables or grab a hot dog from the food cart outside. For a quick snack, head to the vending machine in the lobby.

The museum has two sets of hours throughout the year. Between the end of May and the beginning of September, it has extended summer hours. During the off-season, it closes a few hours earlier each day. The museum has shortened hours on Sundays and is closed for most major holidays.

Children and adults alike have the same admission fee. Senior citizens and military personnel receive a discount.

Cape Cod Children’s Museum is located 2.1 miles (3.4 kilometers) from Mashpee Rotary in the center of town. The museum is best reached by car.
