My stay at Mara hostal was like being at home. She made me feel totally welcomed. The apartment that I reserved was not free but I could stay in her apartment, which was even lovely! Big garden surrounds the house and I had a bicycle for me to use to go to the beach. She also prepared a free dinner for the two of us and every morning I had a delicious and hot coffe! Mara was helping out with everything she could. I miss my stay there!

Very sketchy neighborhood and run down place. However staff were nice yet only spoke Spanish so it was a little difficult. Overall I wodient have paid 10$ to stay there

Mara Hostal is a nice place to stay, the room is in very good condition, you can safely park your car and there are several restaurants and bars in the neighbourhood. Mara is such a nice lady and she gave us the best mangos we have ever eaten, grown in her own Garden! Muchas gracias!

This area is very close to Varadero but much more fun. This is the real Cuba full of life. 10 min ride to the Playa. If you have access to transportation do not hesitate. The room is very clean modern and safe. You get a lot for your money!

Mara is a wonderful host! It was such a pleasure staying at this location A few things to keep in mind: - There's no wifi at the residence but you can purchase a cheap wifi card from a store close to the park in Santa Marta. You'll have to ask around to find out where to purchase it and where your devices will get reception - Mara doesn't cook breakfast for visitors but there are stalls and restaurants close to the residence that you can purchase food from - The electricity does go out somewhat frequently. Mara has a generator but it only powers a fan, it doesn't power the A/C - things like black tea are very difficult to find in Santa Marta. Please bring your own black tea if it's an essential for you Even though I've mentioned all of the above, we had a phenomenal time and we are very grateful to Mara for being such a great host. She was very helpful and kind!

Flughafenabholung sollte auf der Seite 20€ kosten. Auf telefonischer Nachfrage sollte es 50 USD kosten( 21 Kilometer). Wir hatten am Flughafen ein Taxi für 30€ genommen. Betten etwas wackelig und hart. Schlafen aber möglich. Schöner Garten und sehr freundliches Personal. Essen und kalte Getränke gibt es überall günstig auf der Straße für CUP. Tauschen im Kiosk gegenüber möglich.Wechselstelle und Bank staatlicher schlechter Kurs.

Pasamos una noche estupenda, la habitación esta climatizada y la cama es comoda. La zona es tranquila y en taxi se llega rapido a Varadero,al día siguiente pudimos tomar un colectivo a La Habana. Recomendable!

Good value for money
The place is located in Santa Marta, approx 30min walking from the beaches in Varadero. You might be able to get a bike from the host, I am not 100%sure. The rental has its own access, kitchen, bathroom and bedroom. The host is very kind and helpful. I was able to use their internet for a reasonable price (in cuban terms) without having an internet account. Probably the only frustrating things were the mosquitoes and the lack of toilet seat. I would recommend it if you are on a budget.
