An unexpected find perfect for one family or more
Wow, where do I start? The house itself is beautiful, clean, and tidy, with 3 bedrooms (one downstairs, two upstairs), all well furnished, with comfortable beds and nice bedding. One bedroom even has a sleeping loft that kids would love to sleep in. The rest of the house is also beautifully furnished and comfortable, with hardwoods throughout and a beautiful mosaic tiled floor. It is very old but has a lot of charm. Its thick walls make for a very quiet stay, especially as the town is so quiet and sleepy. The only thing that can be somewhat limiting, especially for a large group is the bathrooms, with a very small one downstairs with a somewhat impractical toilet wedged between a sink and a shower. The upstairs bathroom is much bigger with dual sinks and a full tub/shower.
Probably even more impressive than the house is the outside, all walled in with an impressive heavy door leading into the villa and parking right outside. The yard is beautifully landscaped with flowers, plants, cacti and trees everywhere - there's even a fruit orchard with lemon, pomegranate, olive, and loquat trees. There's a huge outdoor kitchen and lots of seating around the yard. It even has a grape stomping pit!
The town of Sternes is very small and quiet, with a few good restaurants, a bar/café, general store, friendly people, and a lot of churches given its small size. It is also much closer to the airport than Chania and very close to many beach resorts. Will book again.
