Go on a picturesque walk from Calvi up to a beautiful hilltop chapel for breathtaking views of the area.

To enjoy some of the best views on the island of Corsica, hike up the scenic path from Calvi to the Chapelle de Notre Dame de la Serra. The small church sits on top of a promontory and has a wonderful outlook across the Bay of Calvi and the Reginu Valley.

The original religious sanctuary on this spot was destroyed during a siege in 1740, but a new chapel was built in the first half of the 19th century. Chapelle de Notre Dame de la Serra is only open for religious services, but even if you don’t plan to attend, make a point of coming up here during your time on the island.

Once you have reached the chapel, take your time to enjoy the views from its courtyard. The magnificent vistas also include the town of Calvi and its citadel. Bring a picnic with you and stay for a while. Local legend says that if you come to this spot with your partner, you will be united forever. Spend a few moments looking over the 19th-century chapel’s simple architectural design features and Baroque bell tower. Opposite the entrance is a large statue of Notre Dame de la Serra atop a rock.

The Chapelle de Notre Dame de la Serra is located approximately 3 miles (5 kilometers) outside town on the road toward the nature reserve of Porto. If you are planning on walking there, it is best to avoid the hot middle of the day. Also, wear a good pair of boots or shoes because the path twists and turns up the cliff overlooking the bay. Signposts along the route point the way. Allow up to an hour to reach the chapel. Alternatively, you can drive there. For directions and a map, visit the tourist office in Calvi’s port.
