Relax and rejuvenate in a renowned spa resort treasured by the ancient Etruscans and explore the town to find gorgeous Renaissance architecture and an art gallery.

Chianciano Terme is a township in the Tuscan province of Siena. Experience the remedial effects of the town’s thermal springs, which were revered by ancient Etruscans, Romans and medieval lords alike. Enjoy a luxurious retreat at Chianciano Terme’s health resorts or stroll around the old quarter to find a picturesque hillside village.

The town is split into two distinct sections. Chianciano Vecchia (Ancient Chianciano) is spread across a hilltop and contains elegant historic architecture. Wander through the town’s ancient gateway via the ornate Renaissance-era Porta Rivellini and embark on a walking tour around the town’s historic sites. Admire the exquisite Church of the Immacolata or check out the artworks on display in the museum in the Collegiata Church of San Giovanni Battista. You’ll see 15th-century Sienese frescoes, a 14th-century crucifix and exquisite 18th-century woodcarvings. For more local masterworks, visit the Chianciano Museum of Art. This regional museum displays a wide range of artworks and antiquities from ancient eras to today.

The Terme section of Chianciano Terme is built around the town’s revitalizing thermal springs. Pick from a variety of health resorts, spa retreats and other remedial specialists that make use of the therapeutic waters that bubble up from deep springs.

The town has five different types of springs. Cleanse your body by drinking the water from the Acquasanta Spring in the forest or relish the remedial effects of Acqua Santissima Spring. Enjoy the cold mineral water from the Acqua Fucoli Spring or purify your body with the cleansing waters of the Acqua Sant’Elena. Sink into a warm mud bath at the Acqua Sillene Spring. Near this revered thermal spring archaeologists have found relics dating back to the 4th century B.C.

Chianciano Terme is a Tuscan commune situated between the Valdichiana and the Val d’Orcia. It is 83 miles (134 kilometers) southeast of Florence. Reach the town by train from Florence in just under 3 hours.
