"Alberico's house is simply enchanting and so is the hamlet of Ponzanello. You really feel like you're stepping back in time (except you have access to all the modern amenities which is great)! The location is perfect if you have a car, about a hour drive to Cinque Terre, plenty of vineyards and other medieval villages to visit in the surroundings."

"Stunning views from every angle of the property. So many nice spots to eat, drink and socialise. And the pool, the pool totally over delivered. " We arrived at the hotel during the night when it was already dark. In the morning, as I woke up and looked out the window, the view was simply breathtaking. The area is stunning and very inviting. Parking at night is available around the hotel, with free public parking until the morning. However, the reception desk offers a more convenient parking arrangement in a dedicated lot just one block away, which I would highly recommend. The staff was kind and accommodating, and the hotel is clean, elegant, and well-maintained. A highly recommended stay!"

Perfect Gem!

"Enjoyed 2 nights at the beautiful Atmosfere Guesthouse, and can’t recommend it enough. Check in was easy and super friendly, they even sent a follow up message the next morning to see if I needed anything! The little apartment was fresh, very clean, spacious, well equipped and super comfy bed! I’m on a longer trip and really appreciated a kettle and tea, as well as the lovely little kitchenette. But the icing on the cake was a small but efficient clothes washer, with detergent!!! After 3 weeks on the road hand washing, this was such a treat. La Spezia is a lovely little town, still very authentic, and excellent starting point for Cinque Terra. I can’t recommend both the town and Atmosfere enough. "

Beautiful Tuscan country retreat if it fits you

"This is a truly beautiful house with long views down to Lucca and olive groves all around. It is well-furnished and we slept really soundly. Massimo, the host, is extremely gracious and offers many great ideas for local activities and day trips, and once you find it the local supermarket is very well stocked. Having said all that, there are two "buts" to determine if this is the right fit for you. The key one is that "steep, winding, and narrow road" indicated in some comments is an understatement of the case. If you are not an experienced and confident driver with a relatively small car, you're going to have a challenge. The road goes from one lane to less than one car width, there are no shoulders, and the dropoffs are steep. It is very unlikely that a car service would agree to come pick you up. Issue #2, which is related to that, is that either you cook quite a bit in the well-appointed kitchen or you stay out for lunch and dinner (meaning drive up the hill in the dark). It is a good 20-25 minutes to anywhere and you get to navigate the hill both ways. We would go out for the day, enjoy an Italian lunch, pick up supplies for dinner, and head home to cook and enjoy that. (Issue #3: if you are a crazy cat person, use your common sense and do not feed the feral cats that roam the mountain as the people before us did.) Again, we very much enjoyed our stay once we figured it all out but you need a small car and you better be a good driver."
