It is an island of contrasts, featuring the rugged Atlantic coastline on the western side and powder soft beaches and the turquoise waters of the eastern/Caribbean side. The climate is gorgeous all year round, although the summers can be quite hot. It is the place for those who want something different, untouched, peaceful, natural. Most of the activities on the island are centered around the sea, fishing (deep-sea, reef, fly), swimming, snorkeling, diving or just plain lazing around on the beach, usually with no one else in sight. It is easy to get to, you can fly into one of two airports, Deadmans Cay or Stella Maris, or pull up at one of the marinas in your sea craft of choice. The weekly mail boats also provide the more adventurous a means of getting here. The perfect vacation choice for families or those who feel the need to get away from it all.

Fishing is the main industry and some farming is done throughout the island. At any given time you can find an abundance of fresh fruit in season, like mangoes, sugar apples, juicy water melon, pineapples, freshly cut bunches of bananas and many others. If you are lucky you may even get invited to share a meal or two with local families. The menu of choice would be seafood, local mutton (goat or sheep) and a variety of dishes like peas n rice, plantains, etc. So for a holiday experience marked by great family fun, friendly people and fabulous food Long Island is the place.
