Sip caipirinhas, listen to live music at the restaurant and enjoy the views of the setting sun beyond the horizon.

Crena Beach is a stunning little cove framed by a long wooden walkway and intriguing rock formations. It is known for its spectacular sunsets and the clear, blue-green water of Abraão Bay. Walk out into the transparent water and gradually make your way down the shallow slope.

Snap photos of the tropical vegetation of the Atlantic forest that surrounds the beach, with the giant trunks of ficus trees as thick as walls. Walk quietly along some of the trails that cut through the woodland area to spot lizards, sloths and monkeys in their natural habitat. Stroll along the walkway that hugs the rocky cliffs and continue along the simple pier, as it heads out into the water. A few colorful boats will likely be moored near the pier.

Sunbathe on the sand of the charming inlet and swim in the refreshing water. Wear a snorkel and mask in the ocean to see the range of colorful fish. Bring your kids beachcombing for shells and other intriguing gems. Let them frolic in the water, which is shallow, clean and clear.

The beach has one restaurant, with a menu of seafood and other culinary delights. Try the shrimp, the chicken pastels and the caipirinhas made with sugar cane liquor. Occasional live music performances are offered as well.

With luck, you’ll see turtles, starfish and other aquatic creatures in the bay. Stay until dusk, when the sun begins to gently slide beneath the horizon, turning the sky dark red. Stay overnight to enjoy the ultimate escape of a waterfront room that is part of the small beach hotel.

Crena Beach is about 0.6 miles (1 kilometer) east of Abraão Beach in the northeastern corner of Ilha Grande. It is on the trail to Abraãozinho Beach, between the sandy coves of Guaxuma and Bica. You can also arrive here from other parts of the island via water taxi. See nearby highlights, such as Comprida Beach, Júlia Beach and the San Sebastian Church.
