Clearhills-charming, private cottage

Clearhills

Clearhills (Darradup) is a beautiful, coffey rock cottage in a tranquil location. Nestled in the middle of the state forest it's the perfect, secluded get-away for a couple, four friends or a family. You can explore the forest which is teeming with birdlife and wildlife, meet our resident possums and watch the kangaroos and their joeys. During the day you can tour attractions, beaches, caves and wineries. It is so incredibly private and secluded, if you wanted to spend the day on the day-bed reading and slipping into a peaceful siesta it's possible. At night you can snuggle up in front of the open fireplace and toast marshmallows. It is truly magical, showcasing the most magnificent night sky. I doubt that you will ever see as many stars in the sky on a clear night. We have a minimum 3 night stay, however, for an additional fee a two-night stay can be arranged by messaging Penni. Clearhills is a truly unique experience and if you book, we will do our best to ensure it is an enjoyable stay.

The Space
This newly renovated house is in a unique location. We have put all the modern comforts into this house, including beds that guests often comment are the most comfortable they have ever slept in. We pride ourselves on cleanliness and encourage guests to contact me (Penni) immediately if there is ever an issue. When I personally book accommodation I above all else expect cleanliness and I would like guests open the door after their drive and feel relaxed and happy. It offers total peace and privacy, but also is only an hours drive or less from many of the southwest's attractions and beautiful coastal towns.
It is conveniently central to EVERYTHING.

Guest access
You will have access to the whole house and be able to roam around the 67 acres by foot.

Interaction with Guests
Guests will access the keys in a designated spot as we do not reside at the property.

Other things to Note
The closest restaurants and food shops are in the town of Nannup. Nannup has a small supermarket. It is best to bring food for your stay. Bunbury has an incredible Farmers Market which is on the way form Perth to Nannup (only 1 hour from Nannup)

The road into the property is gravel, but can easily be driven on by small cars. There is not a garage at the property. You can bring your own or book a canoeing adventure with a local company.

The Neighbourhood
This listing is so unique as there are no neighbours. The house is situated just 20 minutes from the charming little town of Nannup. The house is set on the top of the Blackwood River Valley. Guests have access to 2kms of the Blackwood River and are able to canoe and kayak on the river.

There are hundreds of attractions in the southwest. Many of the towns are approximately 1 hours drive. for example, Augusta. Another stay at this amazing property, very clean, very well equipped kitchen with everything you need and the extras are a plus. The beds and couches are comfortable too. We loved the cold nights in front of the fireplace with heaps of wood supplied. It’s a great place to just relax and watch the world go by, or to go exploring the forest and river. We’re definitely coming back. Thank you Penni

Heavenly
Five stars. Where do I start? We are 2 couples who have been going to the South West twice a year for over 10 years. We have stayed in a lot of places and unfortunately they quite often leave a lot to be desired. This has everything and is our favourite. Our 4 nights was not long enough. Penni has provided everything for a very comfortable stay. Comfy lounge furniture for us all to relax and fall asleep in the evenings. Fantastic inglenook fireplace and plenty of wood. Comfy beds, pillows and linen. Strong hot showers and enough towel rails. Fully equipped kitchen. Misty mornings on the deck with breakfast. Great, comfortable outdoor furniture. It is a true home from home and so peaceful and secluded. Only a 20 minute drive from Nannup. Great meals and atmosphere at the Brewing Company and a nice lunch at Pickle and O. Coming back to the cottage on Cundinup Road we found a real treat just by chance. Out n about egg farm. Stop on the roadside and the free range chickens run to the fence to meet you, and you can buy the fresh eggs at the honour system shed there. There are over a dozen caravans dotted around and this is where the girls sleep! The children will love it! Lastly the possums come out at night and that is a real treat to feed them, they are so cute. We loved, loved this place and will definitely be back.

Peaceful Bliss
A quiet and quaint hide-away immersed in nature. My husband and I were able to truly relax and spend quality time together. Morning walks down to the river, evenings with a glass of wine by the fireplace. We absolutely adored meeting the resident possums and listening to the sounds of nature and sometimes complete silence. The property is clearly loved by the owners, it really felt like a home away from home. Thank you Penni for sharing such a special place with others. We feel truly blessed and relaxed.

Amazing holiday home
This place is absolutely beautiful. The location is quiet and peaceful. The house had everything you could possibly imagine and more. The kitchen was fully equipped. So many toys/outdoor fun to keep the kids entertained. The outdoor fireplace was an absolute gem, toasting marshmallows as the sun goes down, what more could you ask for. We had no reason to leave. The host has thought of everything to make your stay an unforgettable one. Just make sure you take enough food because you'll never want to leave. We would definitely stay here again ❤️

Bush retreat
This property is perfectly located in the bush. Penni has thought of everything with so many activities in the house for kids and adults. The house was immaculately cleaned. The kitchen had all utensils you could imagine. The kids loved the interaction with the kangaroo. It's a short walk to the river. The kids scored it as the ' best holiday house ever!'. If you are looking for a quiet retreat this is perfect.

We stayed at Clearhills for 4 night over Valentines and it was AMAZING! We were looking to unplug and relax and that is exactly what we did, only leaving the house once during our time there, to go get some more milk and fruit for the animals. I had been worried it maybe too hot during the days to just sit outside and watch the birds go by, but this place has plenty of shade and a beautiful breeze. I have no idea how, but the inside of the house stays cool all day, we used the aircon once and it within 20 minutes turned it off again. We didn't want to leave and now we can't wait to go back and experience Clearhills in the winter.

The most relaxing, tranquil and refreshing stay.
From the minute we booked, communication with the host Penni, has been first class. Check in procedure went well, the cottage was spotlessly clean upon arrival, lots of unexpected extras supplied. The most amazing location, views, serenity, wildlife and top level accommodation. Will be recommending Clear Hills to all our friends, and will definitely stay again. Thanks Penni for sharing your incredible property.

A magical escape…….
The property and house was as advertised. It was clean, spacious, quiet and secluded. All amenities were catered for. The possums were an absolute joy to hand feed….the white tailed one even used my finger to balance themselves on 🤩 The monitor lizard said hi on 2 afternoons but unfortunately the kangaroos were too shy to make an appearance. Neighbouring towns were easy to visit with lots of interesting things to do and see. Penni was very easy to contact and communicate with. Would I recommend this gem to others….definitely. And on a final note…the bed IS one of the most comfortable I’ve ever slept in. Thank you Penni for sharing this with us. Regards Amanda and Trevor (Nov 21)

Wonderful Relaxing Experience
Our long awaited honeymoon. I booked this as a surprise for my wife because we had not had a honeymoon due to Covid restrictions. From arriving at the property we were taken aback by the amazing views from the verandah. We walked inside this 'home away from home' and being winter and arriving after 5pm, it was cold outside, but the heating had been left on for us, so it was nice and toasty. We noticed that there was every amenity you could think of to make your stay comfortable and enjoyable. My wife is from England and has only been in Australia 11 months. She was overly excited at our nightly visits from the Kangaroos and Possums. We just love this place and cannot wait to bring my wife's family when the borders re-open.

5 nights in paradise
Wow! Wow! Wow! What a property! Total seclusion, except for the myriad of birds flitting about the yard, kangaroos near the house and of course the possums arriving for a nightly feed of apple. The house has everything you need and feels very much like 'home'. The main bed is the comfiest we've slept in for ages, leading to lazy starts to the day. This is the break we so needed. Mornings spent on the sunny veranda watching the birds and afternoons exploring the local area, including Nannup, Bridgetown, Manjimup and Augusta. All an easy drive and lots to see on the way. Nights we snuggled up in front of the wood fire playing a game, watching a movie or reading a book. We couldn't give this property a higher rating. Recommended to anyone needing a break from their crazy life. Ali and Derek

We had a wonderful stay at Clearhills. This is great place to get away from day to day life. Penni more than met our expectations with the house, all the little extras in the pantry and a kitchen with all you could think of that made meals simple. Enjoyed morning coffee on the balcony with the sun rising through the mist. Made great use of both the outdoor fire pit and the indoor fireplace. Penni was easy to helpful and eash to communicate with. Will be back for another stay.

Delightfully cozy "offline" winter getaway
We had a lovely stay at Clearhills. The extra amenities and thoughtful touches throughout the cottage were great value and really made us feel at home. Enjoying a coffee on the balcony each morning while overlooking the misty forest was a wonderful way to start the day, and warming ourselves by the wood fire each evening with some good old fashioned conversation was a fantastic way to end the day. The extra snacks provided for evening possum visits was a delightful touch. Some visitors might be lost without phone reception and WiFi, but we found it rejuvenating. Thank you Penni, we can't wait to come back!

Private stone walled cottage
Charming cottage, with unusual artifacts on walls, extremely well stocked from a kitchen point of view, to the extent of being a bit overcluttered. Plenty of sports type equipment for older kids, but did find it a bit isolated.
