The Area
The Deal area remains steeped in history with the little changed village of Kingsdown at its heart. The history of Kingsdown dates right back with it providing a popular stopping point for walkers and cyclists travelling the Saxon Shore Way. The unspoilt foreshore of Kingsdown with its pebble beach designated a site of special scientific interest, the Zetland Arms and a scatter of traditional colourful beach huts lies a few minutes walk from Kingsdown Holiday Park. As the tide retreats and reveals a delightful array of rock pools children and adults spend many an hour enjoying their search for the shells, crabs and tiny fish within. The active can enjoy coastal walks or cycle rides along the coast to Deal, St Margaret's Bay or Dover and stop along the way for a cup of tea, an ice cream or something stronger. Along this route lie the immaculate castles of Dover, Walmer and Deal so if you are a member of English Heritage bring your membership card with you. Dover castle also provides access to the extensive tunnels which provided the Operation Centre for the Second World War emergency evacuation of soldiers from Dunkerque. There is an opportunity to cycle on from Deal to Sandwich or for the less active enjoy a delightful drive or bus ride to this riverside Medieval town with its historical buildings and boats resting by the river.
