Located past Deer Harbor, on the west side of the island facing Sidney, British Columbia in the distance, you'll find this wonderful vacation rental home. Imagine sun sparkling on the waters just outside the windows, amazing sunsets, views of neighboring islands, both near and far, the activity of boats and ships heading north and south, the call of seabirds, sightings of seals or possibly even a passing Orca…that’s the atmosphere you’ll enjoy when you stay at Sunset Cove. This home has a true Island feel – it’s not pretentious, just tasteful, comfortable, and cozy. The kitchen and bathrooms have been attractively upgraded, and there’s a large deck where you can dine and unwind listening to the soothing sounds of the waves.
On the main level, there's a well-stocked kitchen with Viking cooktop, Sub-Zero fridge, and an oven with convection cooking.

Also on this main level are the master bedroom with a lovely king bed and a second bedroom with a full bed and single trundle below. The two main level bedrooms share a large bathroom with dual vanities. Down a flight of stairs off the living room is a second bathroom and another sleeping area with a double-sized fold out futon sofa and the laundry room, which has an extra fold-up twin rollaway bed. In this lower area there’s also a large flat screen TV, Playstation/DVD, and the laundry room. With a private entrance, this lower area can become a second master suite or provide a private retreat for a teenager.

This home also has an electric car charger for your use. The home is also equipped with a back up generator in addition to high speed fiber optic internet.

The beautiful pocket beach just below the home is accessed with a steep ladder-type stairway built into the bank. As there is a significant drop from the top of the bank to the beach below; we strongly recommend that children are supervised when outside.

Please note: residential internet speeds, bandwidth and reliability in the San Juan Islands currently lag behind the mainland. Guests who wish to use videoconferencing, streaming services, or multiple simultaneous internet connections should be aware that performance may not meet the levels they are accustomed to. Guests may need to alter their online work and entertainment plans due to service fluctuations or outages.

Bed in 2nd bedroom should be bigger than a double. Perhaps a Queen. There’s space for it. Otherwise it was great especially for sighting deer, seals, eagle and even a humpback whale!! Great amenities too!

Simply divine
Our family of four (kids aged 3 and 5) enjoyed this home so much that I cried when we left (which never happens!). The home is so well lived in, it feels like you are staying at a friend’s home. Some vacation rentals really lack all the amenities to make a house feel like a home: this one has everything - kitchenware, enough dishes and cutlery to actually fill the dishwasher before running it, linens, places to hang the linens, toys, stools, books for all ages and loads of games, etc: it is the best rental we have ever stayed at. The views are incredible: we saw dall porpoises, harbor seals, otters and bald eagles. Sunset is simply divine and the beach is so perfect for exploring and enjoying wildlife. Kids can also enjoy the small yard, in the front and back. Check in and out was seamless. Truly out family’s favorite vacation, much because of this home - and Orcas Island was amazing as well. Highly recommend, including for those with young kids (I’d have felt pretty wonderful with an infant as well!).

Home was very comfortable with a beautiful view of the northern islands. It was quite for major downtime we needed. Driveway is steep, but easy to maneuver. House was clean, warm and all the basics were available. I'd highly recommend.

Paradise with the best sunset
We had a wonderful experience at this home. It was easy to find and roomy enough for the whole family. We appreciated the kids toys and books (and lack of access to the ocean off the deck to keep the little guys safe). The pantry was great for food storage. The sunsets off the deck couldn’t be beat. We watched bald eagles, harbor porpoises, harbor seals, and river otters from the porch. A big fat raccoon came by at night, so don’t leave food out! We also saw a deer one evening. Highly recommend this San Juan paradise.

This house is in a beautiful location! The neighborhood is quiet, tucked away, and filled with towering old growth trees! This house is set right above the beach as pictured! The breathtaking views of the water fill the windows (and deck) and made a peaceful retreat for all of us. The sounds of the water, boaters passing by, and sunsets were perfect. We cooked at the house and ate our meals as a family on the large back deck— the deck feels as if it is floating above the beach; absolutely incredible and worth the trip in and of itself! My youngest son (age 11) enjoyed searching for and watching small crabs on the rocky beach bellow the house during low tide. The ladder is a great feature from the backyard to the beach, it would require close supervision for younger children. The backyard is a steep drop to the beach, young children would need close supervision in the yard as well. We loved this location!! My husband, myself, our four teens/tweens really enjoyed this home and we hope to return to it in early summer when the house may be a bit cooler. The home does not have AC and we reached 80 degrees one of the days during our stay in late June. It would be helpful if the windows facing the water had the ability to open to help with airflow. There is also a wet basement smell in the basement. Even still, we thoroughly enjoyed our time at this property! We highly recommend sailing lessons with Nat at Orcas Sailing, he is friendly and knowledgeable— he taught our teens to sail and had their full attention for three hours! We enjoyed the views on Mt. Constitution in Moran State Park. Eastsound is a wonderful “downtown” area with charming shops & restaurants! We enjoyed Darvill’s bookstore. There are so many scenic and fun activities to do on Orcas!

Great hideaway location for a couple!
We thoroughly enjoyed our 4-week stay in December. For one week, my brother joined us. We all loved the view, the quiet, and we loved the king bed in the master. Drawbacks, though: The second bedroom upstairs has a full size bed. A couple would likely not be comfortable for many nights. The lower "bedroom" is actually best described as a fantastic TV room. The set is quite large, with good sound. Loved the ability to watch DISH, Neflix and Amazon Prime (using our personal subscription logins for the latter two). Streaming was great because the wifi runs at about 40 Mbps! Sadly, the cushions on the futon down there were not good at all and were downright painful after 2 hours. Friends who tried sleeping in this futon bed previously said it was VERY uncomfortable. Everyone loved the propane heater upstairs. Due to septic system restrictions, one does have to use care in avoiding the processing of too much water in a day. Would be almost impossible for three couples to shower every day. If it were my place, I would stop describing it as 3 bedrooms, sleeps 6, and go with 2 bedrooms.... and maybe upgrade to a queen in the second bedroom. The dishwasher seems to be on its last legs, sadly. But we LOVED the stovetop, the vent fan, and the refrigerator. We did a lot of cooking! By the end of our stay, the shower drains were extremely slow to drain. Don't get us wrong -- we LOVE this place and plan on returning.

Amazing Sunsets
The house was ideal from booking to arrival and throughout our entire stay. We initially walked in the house and our jaws dropped at the incredible view. We continued to be amazed by the glorious views and ever changing sunsets. Additionally, the house was well appointed with comfortable beds, a cook friendly kitchen, and plenty of books and games for time spent in the house. From the house, we were able to check out several sights and take in a couple of hikes. All in all, a beautiful house in an amazing spot in the world.

Quiet and private beauty
The only thing wrong was that the dishwasher was not working. Nothing troubling that remained once we sat relaxing outside on the deck looking out toward the other islands in view. The downstairs tv room became a bedroom for us. The bed there is a convertible futon now. It was ok but definitely not super comfortable, per the 30 somethings who slept down there. That said, the downstairs is well light by its windows and very comfortable it worked well for the small family with 2 young children.

Great Getaway Home
We had a great time staying in this home. There are views from nearly every room and they are incredible! This home is updated, clean, and very organized. The upstairs bathroom is huge! The kitchen is spacious and well equipped for cooking meals. There's tons of books and games. Downstairs was perfect for the teenagers in our group to hang out and play video games. The stairs down to the beach are very steep and slippery in soggy weather. There isn't much beach to explore either since the tide runs high there. We saw bald eagles and seals from the living room and dining room windows! It's a quiet and peaceful location. We would definitely recommend this home!

Beautiful View
We had a very nice time and especially loved the view at all times of the day. Sunsets were spectacular. There are views all over the house so no matter where you are sitting, you have a view. One evening we saw a family of 5-6 otters! The kitchen had mostly all we needed and had tons of storage space and ample fridge space. We opened up doors when it got a little warm inside, late afternoon, and rarely saw any bugs in the house. Deck is nice and large, big enough for my husband and I to do yoga with a view. We would stay here again. * This part below is mostly for the owners/reality folks and is written as more of an FYI A few of the windows did not open and the screen door from master to deck was broken. Also, most importantly, that bottom step to the steep stairs to the waters edge was also broken so it was quite a leap down onto the rocks. One other thing is the dishwasher did a terrible job on the dishes, just covered with water spots. I am sure part of that is uncontrollable but I also think that a new dishwasher with "rinse" agent would be fantastic. It is a little unpleasant to drink out of glasses that are spotty and cloudy. The stool to one of the "stressless chairs" kept falling apart as well. A few more blankets would be good as the temps did go down at night. I know this is a little nitpicky but some of theses fixes are easy and will make the next family's visit even that more pleasurable.

Beautiful!!
Wonderful property. Beautifully decorated and of course, the view is marvelous. There are many things you may need in the kitchen: plates, cups, bowls, pots and pans, utensils for cooking and eating, cutting boards, mixing bowls, and more! There are Ziploc bags, dishwasher pods, salt and pepper. There is a coffee maker with a few single use bags of coffee and some coffee filters. There is also a keurig, but no pods. There is also an abundance of towels. There is shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and lotion provided. There is also a washer and dryer and detergent is also provided. The downstairs bedroom is a little less nice than the glorious upstairs bedroom, but they both have views. There are also games, puzzles, books. But not many movies....so for that you may want to bring one of two of your one if you plan to watch. But mainly, the view, the view, the view. So beautiful. Wonderful place to stay.

Overall, a very nice property
The location is lovely and view is exactly as depicted in the property photos. Be aware those windows don't open, though, and that room gets uncomfortably warm in the summer time. None of the exterior doors have screens, so you have a choice of inviting mosquitoes and wasps in (we had both) or keeping the doors closed and sweltering. Once it cools off, it's a lovely place to sit and watch the sunset. The "pocket beach" below the house isn't easy to reach and it's not worth the trip down to it anyway (and it's not there at all at high tide). Just outside the lower bedroom/TV room, though, are a pair of Adirondack-style chairs that are very nice to sit in near dusk (or early in the morning) to enjoy the view. The kitchen is very modern and well-equipped, but beware that there will be no staples (not even salt and pepper shakers!) in the kitchen -- the only thing in the kitchen was some sugar packets and non-dairy creamers. There is both a traditional drip-coffee brewer as well as Keurig brewer. Make a trip to one of the two well-stocked grocery stores on the island on your way to the property and get the basics as well as whatever you're planning on buying to stock the kitchen for your visit. You really don't want to forget anything -- the stores are about 25 minutes away. The propane grill on the back deck works great. The two upstairs bedrooms are comfortable with excellent mattresses on the beds. The second bedroom is a 'full-sized' bed; if you're used to a queen you'll be a little more cramped than you might think. The lower-floor "bedroom" has a fold-out couch (which we didn't need, so I can't comment on it's comfort). The shared bathroom is huge. The lower floor is also where the utility room is located and there is audible mechanical white-noise from that room all the time. It might be loud enough to bother some people. If you're just using that room for TV/movie watching it shouldn't be a factor. The big-screen TV is nice, and Netflix is available if you have an account. There is a PS3 game console but you'll find that it doesn't work -- the TV doesn't support the HDMI signal from the PS3 (or at least, I couldn't get it to work and I'm not an amateur at that sort of thing). I realize I'm nitpicking a bit -- this really is a lovely place to spend a week or so!
