"We had a really poor experience… 1) The bathrooms and washing areas were smelling bad / extremely unclean… the taps were all fully dark and rusty 2) very salty water provided for all washing / bathing. 3) extremely un-friendly staff who were showing absolutely no interest in the welfare of the guests. 4) It was extremely hot during day time, so we asked them to switch on the AC and they said AC will be available only from 9pm. 5) We bought some expensive prawns from the shop they took as to ,...

"OMG what a wonderful trip/adventure. The boat cruised around the back waters for about 4 hours. First before we cruised they served us a wonderful lunch. Then while cruising we stopped at a fish market to buy us whatever we wanted to eat for dinner. I bought 6 giant prawns that they cooked up for me in addition to the other chicken dish we had for dinner. Delish!! Vacation time well spent."

"What a wonderful place, very beautiful and relaxing. Accommodation absolutely top notch, staff even better. Having stayed in several highly rated 5 star hotels during our month long tour of India we felt this to be the best. If you're looking for the backwater experience in true comfort and style then this gives you that. We hired a day boat which picked us up from the bottom of the garden. We spent the evenings watching the boats go by and the chinese fishing nets being used. Realy all one...

"Loved my stay on Marvel. Did two nights and enjoyed every minute. The staff was wonderful, professional and kind. Food was amazing, especially the celebratory lunch that was served on my second day. Absolutely beautiful cruise - highly recommend this experience. "

"Nous avons été accueilli par des propriétaires charmants,très surpris de nous voir arriver alors qu Abritel qui avait prélevé sur mon compte bancaire depuis plus d' un mois les frais de séjour ne leur avait pas versé le moindre centimes. Ils ont néanmoins été des hôtes charmants,aux petits soins. Les chambres étaient grandes et confortables,les petits déjeuners parfaits,la plage a quelques dizaines de mètres. "The Leela Ashtamudi is a truly beautiful hotel with a prime position overlooking the backwaters. The staff were excellent. The complementary high tea and house boat cruise really made our stay in Kollam. Our room was of a very high standard but tired in areas, as were some parts of the hotel. Overall excellent but management could really do with investing in maintenance/upgrade to make this a truly world class destination."
