"The Sunbird waterfront is a very nice modern property with very well appointed rooms. The restaurant is good – breakfast is very good. Staff are friendly and polite. I was disappointed by the lack of a tourist activity program, and very ad hoc approach to this. Some of the prices I was quoted for boat, rides, or other accompanied activities were ridiculous. "I greatly enjoyed my time at the Residence for many reasons. Chawa picked me up from the airport. The fee to get into town was less than half the posted charge for taxis. Breakfast each day was both enormous and tasty. Dinner was likewise excellent. The bed was comfortable, which gave me long, deep sleeping. "It’s near everything you need for a one or two night stay. It is an older place and could use some updating. Poor WiFi and poor air conditioner. I asked to be moved from the first room and the second wasn’t much better. What keeps me coming back is the location, the staff and the food. Especially the breakfast which is worth every penny. "The Green Elephant is stunning. Conveniently located (if you have transport) for getting around Lilongwe but not directly in the middle. The staff are relaxed, friendly and professional and helped every day. They made me special vegetarian options on request, and let me help myself to other foods. The furnishings are top notch. "First dinner was incredible. Huge portions and delicious. Next two were not as good but charged the same price. Asked twice to get the AC fixed. "

"Hotel facilities are in excellent condition and clean. Hotel staff are very friendly and helpful. I was provided a free upgrade on one of my two nights there. Hotel is located a considerable distance from the main commercial area of the city (e.g. 1-hour walk from the government buildings), meaning to go anywhere effectively requires a taxi, but otherwise the hotel area felt safe and secure."

"The lake view is nice. The water is very high right now and so there is no beachfront (which is reportedly the case at most properties). Unfortunately, my room had no hot water (though they tried to turn it on??) and the wifi might as well be nonexistent. The Indian menu options at the restaurant are very tasty, however. Expectations should be kept in check."
