It really is a traditional Japanese hotel and experience and loved the friendly and helpful staff, and the location is just a short 10 min scenic stroll across the river to the bus/train station. "We stayed here for one night and it was such a treat. At first we were unsure about the travel because we started in Tokyo and then we were headed to Kyoto and this added another 8 hours or so of train travel (over two days). That said, we were determined to see the snow monkeys and to stay in an authentic ryokan, so we did it and I am so glad we did!! The travel turned out to be relaxing and part of the adventure. The snow monkeys were awe inspiring and the ryokan was a beautiful experience....

"Fantastic room with private outdoor bath. Public baths are also great. The dinner and buffet breakfast is huge and delicious. The staff is so helpful and friendly. Stayed here multiple times and love it more each time. "

"It's a decent place to stay. I'd say about 3.5 stars out of 5. Downsides are an older building, and water in the onsen too hot for me personally to tolerate (definitely seemed a few degrees warmer than other onsens I've visited). The Wifi also was poor, being slow and frequently losing connection. This ryokan, on the plus side, is very close to the train station and a convenient jumping off spot to visit the Snow Monkey Park. It can be walked, although I suspect most people will take the bus."

Love the onsen and the pick up service are delighted given weather condition or else just few mins away you could walk to train station pretty easily! Love the Japanese artwork around.
