Long Muddy/gravel drive
Ensure you have AWD or 4WD and good tires. It’s a 10 miles drive on a very muddy/gravel, low maintained road with lots of holes. There were several times my van almost got stuck and I was sliding all over the road. The tree and water fountain were very cute but there were 2 dead mice around the bottom of the tree, inside the cabin. The road/driveway outside of the cabin was pure mud deep mud. Would have appreciated a warning about the drive out to the cabin. Thankfully I got there early cuz I had to call my brother and tell him to take my husband’s truck because I didn’t want his car to get stuck.

Winter getaway
The cabin was clean and cozy! Owner stopped and said hi while he was out pushing snow. We are hoping to get back during the warmer months to hit the trails! Thanks for a great weekend!

Was probably nice 10 years ago
Although our host, Steve, was very kind and responsive, I feel like I need to leave a honest review for future travelers. Arrive before dark - the town itself is very remote area with dirt roads and no lights. To get to the cabin there are a few steep inclines and sharp bends- making it a little scary with snow on the road. We ended up leaving one of the cars at the entrance because we were afraid it wouldn’t make it with rear wheel drive. The cabin was fairly clean but very dated. I was expecting higher end for the amount we were charged. In addition, We had a surprise charge through evolve since VRBO didn’t add in the pet fee even though I checked a pet was coming. Speaking of, I’m soooo glad we brought our German Shepard. I wouldn’t have felt very safe otherwise. There are no bolt locks on the door and one good shove of the shoulder would get the door open. We tested it. There was an old musty rotting smell coming from the tree area. Luckily, we found a scented candle and kept that lit to mask the odor. Ask for the Wi-Fi password before your arrival because cell service does not work inside the cabin. Do NOT let anyone flush the upstairs toilet or use any faucets while taking a shower. The water completely disappears from lack of pressure and takes a few minutes to return to a trickle. The beds were hard or you can feel the springs. There was no shovel for the snow, making the walk way quite slippery since it’s on an incline. Kitchen utensils are available but extremely warn. The kitchen itself had 30 year old appliances. Oh, and there is NO hair dryer! We did enjoy our time as a family playing games and hiking in the woods. Steve did stop in the morning we were leaving to check on us. It sounded like he was planning on doing some update so hopefully all of the above will improve.

Great secluded cabin! Perfect for the whole family!
It was a really nice cabin! Perfect for the whole family to get away for a weekend and unplug. The bathtub is awesome and the kitchen had lots of supplies which made it easy to prepare meals. We checked in quite late, and while I had spoken to the owner before check-in, he didn’t tell us how to get to the property so we were driving around looking for the place but it was quite hidden! We asked the neighbors and they were able to direct us to our place. There was little to no cell service so we weren’t able to get in contact with the owner until after we had already found the spot! Over all really good trip!

A lot of potential but not being kept up, roaches, stayed in cabin 3
Beautiful land, peaceful, but not kept up. No WiFi, only one nights of charcoal provided, no chopped wood got logs, no DVD player. Property advertised those were amenities. No one met us to let us in, lack of communication, delayed response from Steve. House was somewhat clean in appearance but felt dirty like the couches and carpet. Many things need fixed: no ceiling fan cords to turn on, wobbly loose bench at kitchen table, door blind msissing and stuck, couch shirting on side torn, sink pipe was not hooked up in kitchen to where water would just run right down into the cabinet they put a towel and bucket down their to catch the water but the cabinet smelled like mold and was worped so has been leaking for a long time. My husband reattached the pipe that they hooked up wrong so the kitchen sink would not leak. Oven seal was broken, fire place wouldn't light, The refrigerator control knob to control the temp is missing and the bars on the doors. The bottom shelf above the crispers is missing. There were dozens of wasp and yellow jacket nests all over the front porch which we had to remove. There were also some mice we seen running on the ledge where the roof meets the wall inside the cabin and they dropped down behind the wall. Bathroom toilet area was dark. The biggest complaint I have is that there were roaches. I seen the ant and roach spray in the towel cabinet in the bathroom but assumed it was for ants in the cabin. I didn't see any roaches immediately until we were packing things up in the kitchen, there was one in a box lid where we had our pop in the kitchen and one that was on the floor near the tree in the kitchen and dinning area that was dead. I would not have rented this cabin if I had known that it had roaches or was being treated for roaches. Now I have to worry about paying to treat everything we took and my house to prevent roaches for establishing. The place has a lot of potential if it was being taken care of.

Great Getaway
This is located in a very beautiful part of Iowa. It is a unique place that has ATV trails, a pond for fishing, and a five hole golf course, farm field grade, not professional. Accommodations were comfortable and the host, Steve, is a great guy. I hope to return some day soon.

Great private location, love the landscape and beautiful cabin
We had a lovely winter getaway at this cabin. It was so private and relaxing and Steve was a great host. He even came out and smoothed out the snowbank to make a sledding hill for the kids which we awesome. We got to hike and explore the landscape which was great and the kids absolutely loved running around and exploring the cabin.

A Cabin getaway!
Awesome property for privacy and trails. Kids enjoyed feel of the cabin and loft beds. Owner was prompt to reply and instructions was easy to checkout. Despite no cell service, the Internet wifi at cabin worked great and had no issues using our cellphones through wifi. satellite tv was great and fireplace kept us toasty during our below zero winter weather stay.

We had an annual family get together with 3 brothers and 1 sister and the in-laws. We love me the location and the activities available with the equipment we brought. It was well stocked with plenty of the necessary items (except dish towels). We are probably coming back next year.

Experience
We had a great stay. Only complaint is that our initial email said the owner would meet us there to give us a key. So we waited in the vehicle for an hour for the owner to arrive but he never did. However, the cabin was unlocked for us so we were able to go in. This was nobody's fault, it was just a lack of communication between us and the owner. I believe it was because we were receiving information from a 3rd party before our stay, rather than the owner himself. We still had a great time and will return in the future.

Nice retreat
The property is beautiful and the cabin we stayed in was great. This would be a good place to visit if you are looking to be somewhere remote and away from cell phones while still having a comfortable place to sleep. My only issue was that based on the description I didn't realize how remote the location was and so was unprepared for that. Also, the driveway once I got to the property is very rough with pretty sizable rocks used to cover the dirt road which would make me hesitate to drive a smaller car on. Otherwise it was a great stay.

Great cabin in a beautiful area!
This cabin was exactly what we were looking for. We had a group of 8 for New Year’s Eve and the night beforehand. We had 3 dogs with us that were comfortable in the area and loved the outdoors. The owner was very kind and stopped over to meet us. He even brought us some cake! Lots of good hiking areas close by as well.

Nice and quiet. The cabin is good, the property is great!
The property is great the trails and the lake are absolutely wonderful! The cabin is rustic yet modern at the same time! The accommodations I would rate an 8 out of 10. You need to watch carefully for the signage, and be prepared to drive down a few miles of gravel roads! But once you drive in it's breathtaking! Make sure you have a steady rapport with the landlord. Cell phone reception is non-existent. So therefore we could not communicate. Also a face-to-face with the landlord would have been nice as well. A few little quirks but you're not staying in downtown Manhattan! Is the perfect place for a Family Getaway lots of room to roam!
