Not quite what we were expecting
welcoming hostess. Good views. Good breakfast. Room a bit run down. The photos of this B&B show the rooms in a much better condition than they really are.

Nice view, lovely pool and clean and appealing looking rooms. The hostess was kind but very energetic and eager to check up on you often. We felt a bit stressed by this and would have wished to be left on our selves. The breakfast was really nice and the location is good. Also a huge plus is that you get a parking spot at the hotel.

Quality of service
I didn't enjoy my stay at the lodge as the rules made my stay very uncomfortable. As I was not in the position to change them I had to stay only one day out of the seven days that I paid for without any refund. I wish all the lodge and hotels can make access on the rules and any other information before one can book(on line booking)so that one can make a decision being aware of everything.

A very needed and peaceful "Time Out"
A relaxing time in a very peaceful environment with friendly staff and welcoming attitude that makes you feel like family. Being a very busy career woman who is also studying part, this was a very welcome break from all chaos and stress with a loved one.

Worst place we have ever stayed at!
First, this is not a lodge but a two-floor guesthouse, the owners live upstairs. Second, of the owners is intrusive. She took it upon herself to come into our room while we were having dinner to move my cloths from the chair to my suite case, we had hung wet cloths on the bathroom hooks that she moved to the shower floor so she could hang the dry towels we'd left on the bed. Third, there was an "honesty" policy regarding drinks from the bar--pay for what you drink--but the liquor cabinet was locked with a note to call the owners when we wanted a drink. I called to request an Amerula at 20:00 and indicated I may want another in an hour. She rudely told me she could serve it now, because she wasn't going to come back down later. I had to Then she told another guest how to poor gin for a G&T that she had watched them on the camera do it wrong! Lastly, on the day we were checking out we had a long drive, we wanted to enjoy breakfast then relax in the room for an hour until check out time at 10AM. Instead we had our beds stripped at 8AM while we ate, the AC was turned off and she took the remote so we could not turn it back on. Our things were still in the room! We asked the housekeeper about it, she apologized and said those were her instructions, but she had not taken the remote. After breakfast instead of a relaxing hour to sort out our luggage and review the map for our drive to the next town, we were made to feel uncomfortable and were covered in sweat from the hot room.

A great guest house
Gary & Tosca were both very welcoming, very friendly and very helpful. Ridgeview is well located, beautifully furnished and has lovely views over the harbour area. The breakfast was first class. Our room was a little on the small side, but we were only there for one night and it had everything you would want for a comfortable stay. we would certainly stay there again.

Excellent B&B
It is hard to criticise and find fault with this establishment - it has everything one needs from a superb & safe location, quality furnishings, spacious rooms, facilities such as swimming pool & bar to the excellent personal service provided by the highly professional & knowledgeable owners, Gary & Tosca. I would have no hesitation in going back to Ridgeview & wouldn't deem it necessary to scour other B&B's - unreservedly recommend.

Ridgeview Lodge
Once again, The Ridgeview Lodge met the high standards it sets itself in terms of convenience and comfort. I arrived a little exhausted but was greeted and checked in without fuss within minutes I was having a very nice shower. A friendly drink at the bar, easy internet access and into a comfortable bed. Breakfast was served again without fuss and the food would not have been out of place at a Grand Hotel. I cannot fault this hotel.

A great place to stay
Riverview lodge is a great place to see Durban, there is a great view of Durban harbour and Gary and Tosca are the ideal hosts. Access to city centre easy as african taxi's operate one block away outside Augustine hospital for a cost of 5 rand per trip, once down town you can pay 15 rand for a full day pass on the pick up and go bus which stops at all the places that you would like to see. If you want a comfortable informative safe place to stay, I fully recommend this hotel.

Step back in time - with a view!
We were stunned to find this oasis of green high on a ridge above Durban. The stone and brick buildings and garden were impressively lovely and we could sense the care which had gone into the physical amenities. Then we were warmly and enthusiastically greeted by Gary and later his lovely wife, Tosca. The ambience is very intimate and we felt more like we were at a country house party than a busy B and B. and, yes, there is a reason this place is known as Ridgeview as we were treated to a spectacular view of the city and harbor below. We met one of their other very regular guests from an adjoining country and felt that we had found a place and hospitality which are appreciated by many returning guests of which our hosts seemed to be genuinely fond. My husband enjoyed talking with Gary about the issues of the world and I was grateful Tosca's recommendations of restaurants and activities. Note- Do not miss the Botanical Gardens, which we visited after checking out as we were welcome to use the Lodge as a homebase for our luggage until we journeyed on to the airport for the long flight back to the US. We would highly recommend Ridgeview for the amenities, hospitality and location.
