The Escala Gite is one of our favourite destinations and we continue to come back each year during May, both for group cycling holidays, and more recently in June for a family holiday with our young children.
Over the years we have seen the Farmhouse occupancy grow as further extensions have been developed, allowing us to host cycling groups of 24 guests (with extra capacity still available). Due to the expansive layout of the gite, multiple living areas and generous numbers of toilets and bathrooms, the place never feels crowded at all, everyone has plenty of personal space, as well as the opportunity to socialise The gite has two independent fully functional kitchens which can comfortably seat 30+ guests during the cooler evenings, however during the warmer evenings dining outside with the view of the mountains is far preferred!
The gite’s location is absolutely perfect for cyclists, with easy and direct access to number of famous valleys. The base of Col d’Aspin is only a 23km valley ride from the gite, Hourquette is 28km and the major climbs of St Lary only 36kms. Alternatively Luchon and its famous climbs is only a 50km valley ride away. The hardest decision we have each day is trying to decide which legendary Col to cycle! After a long day of riding, both the outdoor pool and hot tub are very welcoming!
There are also a number of running and walking trails in the area in stunning surroundings with beautiful scenery. If you’d prefer to have a more relaxing break, Edenvik thermal spa is only a 15 minute drive away and the golf course is only 5mins.
The site is easily accessible from the A64, and while Lannemezan is only a 5 min drive (to all major supermarkets), the gites location is very private and secluded, with only the odd vehicle or tractor passing the lane it is situated on.
Our two young children love visiting the site - there is so much for them to do both onsite form playing outside, in the pool, in the games area or walking through he nearby fields to the local village - it is children’s paradise and very safe haven. The local Demi Lune park is a must visit for anyone with children!
Graham is a fantastic host and nothing is too much of an ask for him. He is great to communicate with, speaking both English and French.
The gite is a great getaway from the world - it’s rustic charm is authentic and quirky.
We’re looking forward to returning next year already!
