Help your child imagine the edge of the universe and beyond in the planetarium, after carrying out experiments that bring science to life.

A fun family outing to the Espace des Sciences includes smoke-filled experiments, scientific talks and a range of interactive exhibits. This place of discovery for young minds features colorful displays and fascinating laboratories that make learning fun. Spend the afternoon with your kids at this exciting complex to show them the world in entertaining terms that they can understand.

As you walk through the halls, peruse the various exhibits, which change frequently. The Eureka Hall features specific themes, such as a display about the trillions of ants populating our world. Make your way to the Merlin Laboratory, an interactive space with hands-on experiences. The kids can do their own experiments relating to everyday themes, such as mechanics, electricity, the human body and smells.

Visit the Earth Hall to learn about our planet’s remarkable biodiversity. Taste, smell and touch the interactive exhibits about flowers, animals and all types of living creatures. Watch a 30-minute talk involving mesmerizing experiments and funny moments that will have the children laughing for days.

Head to the planetarium for one of its regular shows, where you can travel to other dimensions through the use of video and 3-D glasses. Learn about the legends of the sky in the form of star patterns. Find out about the life of stars and our history in space. Look up at the night sky through powerful telescopes to see the celestial world around you.

The site is closed on Mondays but otherwise opens daily from midday until evening with extended hours on weekends. There is an admission fee for the planetarium and the other exhibits. Young people and teachers have reduced prices.

The Espace des Sciences is about 1 mile (1.6 kilometers) south of the city center. Take the metro train to the Charles de Gaulle or Gares stops on Line A. Nearby attractions include the Museum of Fine Arts and Le Liberté concert hall. Enjoy a day pursuing science, culture and innovation at this amazing science center in Rennes.
