"Our group of 10 enjoyed our stay in Penafiel. The property is beautiful - gorgeous sunset, nice pool and a friendly neighbourhood cat. The kitchen has everything that one would need, although it could use a larger kitchen sink! We loved the outdoor bbq and pizza oven. The owner communicated well with us. We highly recommend taking the owner up on the offer to have the Portuguese cook to whip up some excellent Portuguese fare. "

"The owners of the place are fantastic, warm people, they welcomed us as family, despite the language problems :-) The flat is very clean, very spacious and perfectly equipped. The decoration, furniture and equipment is a bit old-school and used already, but still it is a great value for the price. We loved the garden, with small pool. Car is a must there. The way to Porto is very straight forward and takes about 20 minutes, same for the nearest beach. We highly recommend this place!"

"We spent a wonderful week in this lovely villa in August. Very well equipped and comfortable, and in a great location to explore the area - but note the roads are very windy and hilly so it can take a while to get places! The swimming pool is great with a fantastic view, and we enjoyed taking the kayaks out on the river. The owner Maria gave us some good tips on places to visit and made us very welcome. Thank you for your hospitality :)"

"Nice house, the description is pretty accurate. Quite comfortable for 8 people. We stayed in the mid of summer; the pool was very warm. The river was also warm and good for swimming. The things to pay attention to: - during hot days A/C works to full capacity. - the closest store is 10-15 min away, not walkable - if you are uncomfortable driving steep up/down hill, and sharp turns, consider staying elsewhere. "This is a beautiful, peaceful property. We enjoyed the huge rooms, gorgeous dining room, and decent gym. The spa consisted of a small sauna and steam room (which we could not open, and there was no one working there to open it). But it was very difficult to find, as the Expedia address took us to a house 15 minutes away. We had to put the name of the hotel into Google to find it, but there was no sign at the front of the property, which just looks like a house from the road, so it was all very confusing."

Quinta de Santo António - Country House & Villas

"This Quinta exceeded our expectations. It is situated in a rural and beautiful area. There are a couple of restaurants within walking distance. There’s also a much larger town not too far from the Quinta, called Penafiel. The villa where we stayed had a breathtaking view of both the vineyard and river. Loved the glass floor to ceiling windows and doors and enjoyed sitting on out on the balcony and taking in the views. The staff were excellent, very accommodating. The breakfast was just okay, as I wasn’t crazy about the eggs and bacon and the yogurt was vanilla flavored, instead of the plain we were used to. I was able to request fried eggs and crispier bacon, which made a much better breakfast( like I said they are accommodating). We did have to request extra towels and non decaf coffee, as they only had one regular pod and one decaf, which was weird as only one person in the room could have caffeinated coffee, but again a simple ask and we received- hence the 5 stars. The hotel bar was also a delight, which is situated on the river bank. Dining in the restaurant for dinner was surprisingly excellent, we loved everything and returned the next night for dinner as well. Altogether, this is a very special place and a memorable experience. "
