Very close to the beach, Parc del Pescador is the perfect retreat from the Spanish sun. Modern and full of amenities, it is the crown jewel of Cambrils’ park system. The site spreads out over 54,000 square feet (5,000 square meters), offering multiple play areas for children, a café, lawn games and more. Try the monkey bars, watch a play in the open-air amphitheater or simply lounge in the Mediterranean garden, featuring a selection of plants representing the countries of the basin.
Avoid getting a sunburn by relaxing beneath the Parc del Pescador’s palm trees. Shop for trinkets or local produce at the occasional markets. Challenge some of the locals to a game of pétanque, a ball game much beloved throughout the Mediterranean region. If you don’t want to participate, sit on a bench and watch the experienced players smoothly knock balls into position. Relax next to the small pond shaded by eucalypti as parrots flit from tree to tree above.
Visit in the evening, especially during the summer, when the park comes alive with concerts and revelers, ready to enjoy the night. Dance to traditional Spanish music or rock as more contemporary groups take the stage. Explore the old fishing boat that sits at the far end of the park, memorializing the fishermen who have gone in and out of Cambrils’ port for centuries. Snack on tapas from the on-site cantina as you relax. During gaps in the excitement of the park you may hear the waves from the ocean across the street.
Located near Cambrils’ tourist office and across the street from the beach, the Parc del Pescador is less than a 10-minute walk from Cambrils port and the main train station. Cross the street to the soft sands of the Playa de la Riera d'Alforja. Metered parking is available at the port or on nearby side streets. The park is open from mid-morning to evening and stays open quite late during the summer.
