This newly rebuilt 2040 square foot log cabin is nestled within the Sangre De Cristo Mountains in the Southeastern part of Colorado at an approximate 9100 feet elevation. It is located 95 miles north of Taos NM, 93 miles south of Pueblo CO, 42 miles east of Alamosa CO and 44 miles west of Walsenburg, CO.

The cabin is also located within Forbes Park, which is a private, gated neighborhood on 13,000 acres. The wildlife in Forbes Park is very diverse. You will find lots of deer, elk, turkey, bears, coyotes, beavers, birds and smaller animals all areas. Hunting is available in the nearby areas however there is NO HUNTING within Forbes Park. We recommend that you check with the Colorado Parks and Wildlife website to learn more about licensing and the available areas located nearby for hunting.

The spring and summer months have wonderful climates that range from 41 to 81 degrees. Winter however, can produce and average snowfall of 44.4 inches. Please note that due to heavy winter snows and the annual spring snow melt, A 4-WHEEL DRIVE VEHICLE IS HIGHLY RECCOMENDED FOR WINTER & EARLY SPRING ACCESS!

Premium services such as HBO Max, Disney+, Netflix, Paramount+ and more are also available with the Roku video streaming services. We will provide a wi-fi password and directions for tv use; however, we do not provide any type of technical support. Cell service can be hit and miss; however, there is a landline with phone extensions on all three levels at the cabin for emergencies. We also provide 2-way radios for you to maintain contact with one another while you are hiking or exploring the cabins surrounding area.

There are plenty of recreational opportunities in the area. From the Great Sand Dunes to the Historic Fort Garland Museum. We believe that you will find a great mix of relation and recreation at the Hummingbird Hideaway. Please note that Forbes Park does have certain covenants that must be followed. As such, ATV's, UTV's, and Motorcycles are not permitted inside Forbes Park.

Your privacy is of our utmost concern. However, we also believe that safety and security is an important part of your stay.
- We have provided a hard wired telephone, and two 10-mile and 2-way radios for your safety. Due to the wildlife in the area, we feel that you should take precautions when hiking away from the cabin.
- We have installed a monitored alarm system that can be enabled at night. Outdoor motion sensing security cameras and outside motion detection lighting will help alert you of wildlife outdoors before you leave the home in the dark.
- You may arm the system as "home" at night to ensure your families safety. However, you must remember not to open any other door but the main entrance when the system is armed.
- The Outdoor security cameras are located under the deck to cover both patio entrances, on the side of the house facing both the north and south sides of the cabin and one doorbell video camera that will monitor the main entryway.
- All outdoor cameras cover the outside perimeter with lighting and motion detection of the cabin for your safety.
- There are NO indoor cameras. If you find unauthorized cameras or are concerned about certain areas, please notify us immediately so we can investigate it further.

PLEASE NOTE: There is currently there is a Stage 2 fire restriction in Forbes Park. Open fires and/or fireworks are not allowed.

Great place to stay
The place had everything we needed for an enjoyable time in the area. Make sure you have good tires and a car that can handle dirt/rocky roads and you will be fine. There are lots a deer in the area so watch out for them when you are driving in. We also saw a bobcat near the house, be mindful if you are out walking. The host communicated well with us during our stay when we had a question. I would stay here again.

Close, but needs a few things
Nice place with some shortcomings. The A/C unit was not there, as advertised. There are no screens on the windows in this house. We found this very disappointing. Who rents a place thinking they should ask if there are window screens? It got very warm and stuffy every afternoon. The large triangular windows let blinding sun in in the late afternoon. I could barely cook supper with it like that. When we arrived there was garbage on the floor in the corner of living room. We were sticking to the floor in the hall and I had to mop the first evening. Turns out there was hummingbird sugar water all over the floor and running down a shelf. The lowest level is very musty. There were also crickets, both dead and alive, down there all over the carpet. I vacuumed on night one. Be careful, the stairs are different heights in the rise of the stairs. There was laundry in the washer when I went to use it mid-week. I didn’t know if it was clean or dirty. The amenities were good and most everything you would need for your stay is already there.

Amazing Relaxing time.
We were in aw of how beautiful this place and area is. It was so peaceful and just like a piece of heaven. We had such a relaxing time. My husband and I stayed at the cabin the whole time once we got there. Our son and his friends basically stayed down in the basement and ventured out to explore Colorado. We both agree this has been hands down our favorite vacation to date. Thank you to the host to make sure everything was perfect.

Nice, quiet cabin, in a secluded spot.
This is a nice cabin, good for groups of all sizes, we had 7 in our party and it was perfectly comfortable. The cabin has a great view off the back porch, and the neighbors arent too close. It isnt the most convenient to get in and out of though, if you need to go into town, about half the drive is just getting back out to the paved road. Its about an hour drive from the sand dunes, which is definitely worth the trip

Beautiful connection with nature!
We had a wonderful time. Alternated days between cooking and playing games at the home, with visiting attractions within an hours drive. The home met all our needs and gave everyone the space they needed. Early mornings were spent on the back porch with a cup of coffee and watching the birds and chipmunks. One day we had a deer run through the back yard and soon after a coyote followed. We all hoped the deer was faster, even though the coyote was beautiful as well. Highly recommend the Hummingbird Hideaway!!

The mountains were calling...
We had a wonderful stay at The Hummingbird Hideway. We saw lots of different species of birds, and the chipmunks were fun to watch. The last two evenings we were there the deer made an appearance at dusk. One night we counted 11 deer having their dinner. The cabin was well stocked with lots of extras in the kitchen. If you want peace and quiet in the mountains and with the bonus of seeing wildlife, this is the place. Its also a short drive to Great Sand Dunes National Park as well as Stations of the Cross Shrine in San Luis Colorado. The cabin was very nice and spacious.
