Tucked away in the peaceful woods of Tabernash, an easy 10-mile drive from Winter Park, Sunset Chalet is the quintessential home for your next Rocky Mountain retreat. Handcrafted by its owners, this home is full of love and care that were taken with every detail. With ample room to spread out and a great location for your all-seasons mountain adventures, your family and friends will want to come back year after year.

The main level of the house was designed for gathering, offering an open layout where you can easily recap the day's adventures. The kitchen is fully furnished with everything you might need to make your favorite meals, and it opens up to a dining table. There's also ample seating at the breakfast bar. Make your way into the living room with a floor-to-ceiling wood-burning fireplace, comfortable leather furniture, access to the sunny patio, and board games to entertain you on rainy days. There's also another covered patio where you can fire up the grill when the sun is shining. The main level hosts two bedrooms, each with a queen-size bed and cozy furnishings; the two rooms share a full bathroom.

Upstairs, there is another plush sitting area where you can catch up on your reading or cozy up for a movie on the large Smart TV. Rest peacefully in the primary bedroom with a king-size, custom-log canopy bed and an en suite bathroom. The other two bedrooms on this level share a half-bathroom and are perfect for the young (or young at heart)! The bunk room has a twin-over-full bunk bed and a twin-over-twin bunk bed. The second “kids' room” has a queen-size bed and a lofted twin bed that's ideal for a child. Below the loft is the “Starfish Cafe” play zone, adorned with baby dolls, a play kitchen set, and more for hours of entertainment. Each of these rooms also has a custom built-in loft for the youngsters.

The lower level is the entry to the home, offering ample space for everyone’s hiking boots or ski gear. This level provides another fantastic space to gather the gang. Compete in a friendly game of Ping-Pong or grab a movie from the DVD library and get comfortable in the TV room. This level also rounds out the last two bedrooms; a king-size bed and full bathroom.

To top off this exquisite home, you'll enjoy the convenience of a two-car garage, a convenient washer/dryer, and a boot/mitten dryer in the laundry room. And the outside is just as cool as the inside - there's a tree fort (please use at your own risk), a firepit, a small playhouse, and two swings fashioned out of lift chairs.

Tabernash offers a great location conveniently situated between Granby and Fraser/Winter Park. Sunset Chalet is about three miles from Devil’s Thumb Ranch, where you'll find restaurants, cross country skiing, a world-class spa, horseback riding, fly fishing, and much more (be sure to check for any local restrictions).

great spot for a group of friends
We had an excellent time last week! Our only challenges were the water pressure in the showers (which one of us joked felt like "vegetable mist".

Great house, POOR management
Every vacation home we're rented has included a book with instructions, rules, recommendations -- except this one. There were 9! bags of trash on the floor of the garage from previous renters, and NO instructions on what to do with our trash. This is bear country, so this is kind of important. There was also a shortage of towels: Only one hand towel and one washcloth in the entire place. At least one pillow case smelled strongly of women's perfume, which made us question whether the sheets had been laundered. I contacted Vacasa (who our reservation was made through) twice by phone about the trash issue. Both times was told the local management would be in touch, but I received no response. The kitchen could be outfitted a little better, but we made it work. On the plus side: the house itself is really great -- roomy, with several hangout spaces, great back yard with swings, a tree fort and fire pit area! What we thought was the advertised playhouse is actually a sauna we finally found the key to. (I guess the playhouse is the tiny log cabin shack near the driveway). Most of the beds were very comfortable. The location is lovely, close enough to Rocky Mountain National Park, and the fun towns of Winter Park, Fraser and Grand Lake. And one of our guests did catch a glimpse of a black bear!

Favorite Vacation Rental
We were celebrating a birthday and had a wonderful time at the cabin. It’s an absolutely gorgeous location. Plenty of room and overall one of the best vacation home rentals I’ve ever stayed in. Owners might consider including instructions regarding the water heater being turned off between stays in the welcoming instructions. The pilot light was off and heat turned down which was frustrating to have to problem solve and wait for warm water after long travel. Otherwise an excellent place!!

Family trip
The property was good for our family....But since it was catagorized as sleeping 18 people we couldn't believe there was only one regular size refrigerator! Our group was 16. We were staying for 5 days and most of our food was brought along and didn't fit in fridge. We had to buy a lot of ice and use coolers to store cold stuff. No one mentioned that we needed to turn water heater off vacation setting upon arrival, so our first night was cool showers until we found a small list taped to door frame with that direction. Ice maker was not working for us. After a while and lots of kid use....water dispenser in fridge door ran warm/hot water. Those were inconviences....but our overall stay there was good and worth it!

Very unsatisfied with the listing
The house was not clean, we had to clean all the counters and tables upon arrival. The carpets had to be vacuumed when we got there. There was trash in the garage from previous renters that stunk so bad. Spiders and ants were all over the inside of the house. We killed multiple bugs every day. For the price, they property was a complete bust!

Nice property, broken thermostat
This property was very impressive and the perfect spot for our group. Unfortunately the thermostat was broken and we spent the first night in 40 degree temperatures. Vacasa, the vacation rental company who manages the property has been very difficult to work with and it's been a challenge getting compensation for our first night.

Family Loved It!
This property had all the rooms we needed for our children’s families to be comfortable. There are cute extras like lofts that connect between two bedrooms and a tree house outside. There are a few small inconveniences like the WiFi never worked despite a Vacasa rep trying to fix it - and no one following up like they promised they would. There is also only HOT water dispensing from the kitchen fridge, a nozzle that only sprays in the kitchen sink and some issues keeping the furnace running. Overall, the property was everything we hoped for and provided us with an amazing family vacation.

Great Mountain Escape
This is a great property for a large group. Our extended family loved the spacious accommodations and there were tons of fun activities for people of all ages. I could see this being perfect for families with young children as there are lots of unique, child-oriented features throughout. Management firm was a little slow to communicate, but the property and location were fantastic.

Almost great
Overall property was great. A couple of issues: - Communication w/ property manager/owner was terrible. No one responded - The roof leaked in one of the rooms - Hot water heater was set to "away", so initialy very little hot water - Trash situation bad. They say to "take it with you". That is absurd for a group of people who are traveling in to take the trash with them. The group before us left their trash. We had to do the same as we had no idea where to take it. - The drive way is VERY steep and was like ice with the packed snow. They do call out in the description that you might want 4 wheel drive. They need to say emphatically that you MUST have 4 wheel drive if there is any snow on the ground. We had to have 2 vehicles go buy chains just to make it up and down. - The ping pong table net is a joke. Was super cheap and non-usable. For $10, could get a good net that worked.
