La Hermitage, Frayssinet
This ought to be a really amazing property. The setting is gorgeous - a tiny hamlet in secluded valley, with rolling hills, no sound except birds and crickets, and the occasional tractor. The house is very spacious and appealing - converted from an old pigonnier and a big barn, with high ceilings and amazing beams; set in large private gardens, with views down the valley. Its lovely and cool inside even on the hottest days, and the pool is a good size.
It is clearly very much a family home - the owners are English and it is managed by a next-door neighbour, Ian, who is Scottish and was very kind and helpful.
Sadly the property is let down by the standard of the fixtures and equipment, and a general lack of TLC.When we arrived, the house had not been cleaned fully esp the kitchen. (Some of the cleaning was done on day 2 and we received a small discount).
The kitchen is bizarrely split across two rooms, so that the gas hob in a different room to the fridge and oven.
Outside the gardens are pleasant but neglected; tatty plastic tables and chairs outside (only 7 chairs), with stained and torn cushions.The two bedrooms in the tower with twin beds are very charming, but one is accessed through the other, and the bathroom and loos are at the other end of the house.
The property is unsuitable for anyone with small children, as there are open staircases with only a banister rail or nothing at all. No rail around the swimming pool so again worrying with small children.
