Galleon Beach has an abundance of everything that makes Antigua such a beloved vacation destination. Spend a day at the beach to enjoy pristine white sands and crystal clear waters. Venture into the surrounding area to discover beautiful rock formations and walk along winding trails that cut through thick, verdant undergrowth. Allow plenty of time to explore the rich beauty of the ocean itself, which is filled with fascinating creatures.
This beach is more secluded than the buzzing tourist favorites on the northwestern part of the island. This is the perfect place to dip your toes in the warm Caribbean waters of Freeman’s Bay or relax with a cold drink in the shade of a beach umbrella. Explore the special features that set this beach apart from the many other beautiful stretches of Antigua’s coastline. Set off on one of the two trails that start from the beach: the Lookout Trail and the Jones Valley Trail. Both lead to Shirley Heights Lookout with incredible views across the island.
Another beauty spot easily reachable from Galleon Beach is the cliff above the Pillars of Hercules. Follow the coastline and a wooded trail south by foot for about 10 minutes and reach this rugged area of the island that is known for these natural rock formations, which resemble columns. Go on a boat trip to see them at their best from below.
Join a guided snorkeling tour to explore the many wonders of the coral reef located close to the beach. Discover colorful fish, turtles, crustaceans and other marine animals that have made their home in the reef. It is a treasure trove of marine life.
Stay at one of the cottages or villas close to Galleon Beach or find accommodations elsewhere on the island and enjoy a daytrip to this peaceful bay. Drive here from Antigua and Barbuda’s capital, St. John’s, in about 40 minutes. Take plenty of photos of this gorgeous destination, which looks like it came straight from the front of a picture postcard.
