Lakeside Log Home, fireplace, snowmobile trails, parking, skiing, dog-friendly

The Wild Winds is a winter wonderland! Stay in this rustic, cozy log home at the Wild Winds that we call the “Junior” cabin (built in the 1950’s). Snowmobile trails start at the top of our driveway. Cross-country ski on our 70 acres of private trails, or visit groomed county trails only a couple of miles away. Ski downhill courses such as Treetops or Boyne Mountain, each only about half an hour away. Or simply enjoy the pristine beauty of our acres of pine forest in their winter frosting!

There is room to park a trailer here.

“Junior’ cabin has 2 all-season bedrooms and a 3-season back bedroom and sleeps 7-11, and it has a fireplace!

Thinking ahead to other seasons? The Wild Winds is a nature lover’s paradise all year round. We offer many trails for hiking and/or biking. Enjoy fishing, boating and relaxing on the lake and beach, just steps from your rustic cabin. Or spend time at our private pond (actually a small lake) nestled in the woods, where we have installed a dock for deep water swimming and canoeing. Or for a little more excitement the Wild Winds is only 7-8 Miles from world class golfing, shopping, restaurants and other sporting lakes. If you like to take short day trips you could go to Petoskey to see beautiful Lake Michigan, or spend your day at Mackinac Island.

The log homes are right on Wequas Lake, and our beautiful private lake is just a short walk into the woods.

Both homes come equipped with satellite TV, washer, dryer, full kitchen and 1 bath. The price is the same for either log home. In July and August we rent by the week (Saturday to Saturday) There is $90 cleaning fee, and well-behaved dogs are permitted for an additional fee.

There are a total of four homes at the Wild Winds; the Lodge (where my niece lives), the Dorm (my house) and two vacation log homes.

Not what we expected!!!
The fireplace was nice. The washer and dryer worked refrigerator and stove worked. 3 of the 5 beds had mouse droppings between the sheets. The king bed had a spot on the sheet, that washed out when we washed it, so obviously those sheets had not been washed from the previous guests. been w

Quiet cabin on a small lake
Our boys had a 3 on 3 tournament and they wanted something to do in their down time so they wanted fishing. They had a great time and the property owners were great and very helpful, especially when my son hooked his finger good and needed a decent pair of snips to cut the hook, and even though we woke them up for help- they were so kind. The cabin was older and outdated, not sure if there was a way to lock up the cabin… The cabin needs thicker window curtains for privacy. It had plenty of room and a grill to use kitchen had sufficient kitchenware to use.. Our kids enjoyed themselves, I would probably stay again if I find myself in Gaylord in the future. Location was great, they had boats to use, kayaks, row boats, and paddle boats.

rustic cabin in nature
Our stay was both really peaceful and invigorating to be immersed in so much nature. I loved the hiking trails on the property and rowing on the lake. The local area has a lot of outdoor activities to offer and Rokko's cabin was a great place to stay.

Owners greeted us on arrival, very friendly people
We stayed over the New Year. Beautiful place to stay. Great view of the lake. The owner gave us very easy directions to follow to get there. Very quiet and cozy place to stay. Not to mention New Year's Eve it snowed maybe over 5 inches which was amazing.

Comfy place to relax
We enjoyed relaxing in front of a fire for the weekend, with a few walks on the property. The cabin had all of the basic necessities, and a lot of firewood! Also, beautiful lake view.

A nice rustic getawy near Gaylord
This worked well for us. We came up north for a skiing weekend, and Rokko's place worked well. Gaylord was close enough to run in for meals, and the cabin was a good fit for what we wanted.

Great stay!
This is a nature lover’s dream cabin! My kids loved the lake for the paddle boating, canoeing, row boating, fishing and gorgeous sunsets. Rokko is a great host and incredibly talented musician/pianist; We were lucky enough to be around when he was practicing. Great spot to take day trips to Mackinaw, Traverse City, Petoskey, and Charlevoix. We definitely will be back.

great log cabin!
It was a quaint little cabin on the lake. The cabin had plenty of places to sleep. The beds were comfortable & kitchen had alot of utensils for fixing dinners for a larger group. The water pressure was great for being a rural cabin with plenty of hot water! The owner & family members were very friendly. It was a great place on the deck to see the sunsets! Great time!

Thank you all so much. We had a very relaxing stay and even caught a few fish. The wifi was fine and we didn't ever bother to turn the tv on. MIke was extremely helpful at check-in and we had no issues or concerns during our stay. Thank you again!

We had such a fabulous time at Wild Winds log cabin on the lake!!!!
From the sounds of the birds in the morning to the owls at night we had such a spectacular time. We only stayed three days but we loved every minute of it and next time we'll go back for a full week. The campfire is right next to the water and it was just beautiful watching the stars every night! Wild winds is only an hour from Mackinac Island so we spent one day on the island!!! we had access to paddle boats, row boat and a canoe and loads of fishing. Our host Rokko was the nicest person and very accommodating. Our overall experience at Wild Winds was perfect!!!!

Peaceful Place to just relax
We needed a place to stay because we were attending the Big Ticket Festival in Gaylord. When we arrived we were greeted by the owner who took time to show us around the house and around the property. The home was clean, the folks were friendly and the beauty was incredible. We enjoyed it so much that we have already set our reservations for next year. We have decided to add a few days so we can have more time to enjoy the beauty of the place. I would highly recommend Wild Winds if you are looking for a place to get back to nature, and just spending time in the beauty of the woods.

Beautiful!
This was our second stay in the Junior cabin, and it was just as nice as the first time three years ago. The property, the trails, the lake, are all just spectacular. The cabin was clean and well furnished and my tow kiddos loved sleeping in the back bedroom. We were very pleased to be able to bring our dog this trip as not all places allow that. Lots of owner contact prior to arrival and someone was there to meet us and make sure we had everything we needed. We will definitely keep coming back. Thanks for sharing your place with our family!

Hosts were so friendly and helpful.
It's definitely rustic but that adds to the charm. The lake is great and there's lots of boats to use. Could use different curtains in the bathroom as they're pretty see-thru but the window faces the woods so..... Price was good and we'll stay again when in the area. There's more than one cabin and we had a few party people but they were far enough away that it didn't bother us too much. House is surprisingly quiet with windows shut. Loved the lake.

Great Time!
Rokko was awesome, he lives right next door which could turn some people off, but he was super cool, showed us around when we got there and didnt mind us being loud. Its a fun rustic cabin in the woods but we went up with a group of 9 adults and we slept very conformably and they were so cool about our music and letting us be us. would recommend to anyone looking for an up north getaway, we kayaked, played in the water, hiked on the trails, drank and listened to music!!!! great time and great price! We will be back and will be renting both houses on sight:)

Serene getaway
Very easy process to rent. This type of cabin was very nostalgic for us. The quiet really was enjoyable. It’s title Wild Winds was very accurate! There was a pleasant wind every day! Wildlife was abundant and beautiful scenery. I was disappointed there was no dock to fish off of but due to unexpected high water that wasn’t possible. My son and husband wished internet service would have been better. Overall it was pretty much as we anticipated so we had a very enjoyable stay.

Snowy Overnight in Gaylord
We ended up booking a last minute overnight stay at this property so we could show our international guest snow for the first time. Even though we didn’t book until the night before Rokko was still able to let us check in early so we could maximize our brief stay up north. The cabin had plenty of room and everything we needed. Communication with the host was great and we were greeted when we arrived so we could get familiar with the property. We spent some time walking the nearby trails and got to enjoy the woods and lakes surrounding the cabin. While out enjoying the property we were also able to meet one of the neighbors who was extremely friendly. Overall we had a great stay and look forward to staying again if we find ourselves in the area.
