Zlote Tarasy featuring modern architecture and a city

The billowing glass roof of this huge shopping center shelters Warsaw’s most modern commercial paradise.

A million people visit the bright lights of Zlote Tarasy shopping complex every month to restock their wardrobes, living rooms and kitchens with the very latest and trendiest items. Find all the high-end luxury boutiques typical of a modern European mall as well as major Polish brands, chain stores and electronics retailers.

Opened in 2007 and costing more than €200 million, Zlote Tarasy was designed by international architectural firm Jerde Partnership. The architects wanted to re-energize Warsaw’s center, which was still reeling from the legacy of wartime destruction. Taking inspiration from the city’s beloved parks, they designed the mall as a contemporary public space, complete with a central plaza and numerous terraces.

As you approach the shopping center, look for the eye-catching roof. Reminiscent of tree canopies, the roof’s shiny undulating glass contrasts with the severe cityscape around it. The renowned glass dome was designed to discourage snow building up and to filter sunlight. Its unusual shape has earned Zlote Tarasy the nickname “the bubble mall.”

Venture inside and admire the modern curved lines and surfaces that dominate the enticing interior. Sip a hot drink at one of the coffee shops dotted around the center and browse the boutiques. Shops here sell everything from designer fashion and shoes to electronics and jewelry.

Ascend to the top level to eat in the modern food court or head to the basement to pick up snacks in the supermarket. The center contains more than 20 restaurants and bars spread across all five levels, as well as a multiplex cinema.

Drive into the underground parking lot or use the pedestrian walkways and tunnels to reach Zlote Tarasy. They extend all the way from the city center to the Warszawa Centralna train station, allowing people to traverse the mall with ease. The mall is located near the iconic Palace of Culture and Science, a massive Stalinist structure inspired by American art deco skyscrapers.
