Alum Rock is located 30 minutes north-west of Stanthorpe. Using Google Maps, you are able to search ‘Alum Rock Hideaway’ which will provide you with the access point to the property. From here, the hideaway is set close to Pike Creek, another 10 minute drive from the pinned location. Detailed access instructions will be provided to you prior to your arrival date. Please be advised, the drive from Goldfields Road out to the hideaway is a dirt road. We therefore suggest careful consideration of your vehicle type when booking your stay.
Please note, though infrequent, access can be compromised over the Pike Creek crossing in periods of heavy rainfall and subsequent flooding, in which cases 4WD or AWD vehicles will be required for access. Bookings may be subject to last minute rescheduling if your vehicle is not suitable for the conditions at the time of your stay. In such cases, we will correspond with you in the lead up to your stay to discuss your options.
Saving you from any formal check-in process, you’re invited to come and go from the hideaway at your leisure. As we are an operational property, we ask that any gates opened along your route are closed behind you.
Though fully off-grid and powered by solar, the hideaway does not sacrifice on comfort, providing filtered rainwater for drinking, strong water pressure and a flushing toilet. We do not currently offer WiFi however those with Telstra or Optus can expect a reasonable 4G/5G connection.
For those feeling adventurous, Pike Creek winds its way for over 6km north to south through the property, providing a picturesque walk with an abundance of wildlife. Fallow deer, wild goats, wild pigs, kangaroos and many types of wallaby frequent the remnant vegetation alongside the waters edge.
Your hosts Sofia & Ken moved to the country in 2020 and have been utilising their skills in building and design to offer unique stays here at Alum Rock, with the hideaway being their latest project.
