Babineau Cottage With Ocean And Mountain View

A delightful newly renovated cottage right off the legendary Cabot Trail. Open rooms and ceilings, paired with beautiful hardwood floors- crafted from local rock maple, birch and ash- create a cozy beach atmosphere. The cottage has a full kitchen- including handmade counters atop antique cabinets, in addition to two bedrooms, a washing machine and dryer and a spacious bathroom. A beautiful deck provides the perfect ocean view and ideal location to watch the sunset, BBQ dinner or simply relax. With only a 5 minute drive to the beach and a 15 minute drive to Cape Breton Highlands National Park, there is a wealth of outdoor fun awaiting for families and couples alike.

Owner Description: Jyl and I live in Margaree Valley on my family's homestead property. We have 9 children, from 27 right down to 2. I drive a school bus and own a small well drilling company, Jyl is a physiotherapist.

Miscommunication but made whole.
We had trouble communicating with this host. We didn’t receive his responses to our questions via VRBO app. We were able to talk to his wife via the provided phone number to confirm our arrival time, address and entry code. We arrived at 11pm to a house that had not been cleaned. The host was able to contact a local hotel that had enough rooms available for us. We ended up staying at the hotel for the two nights we were in the area. The host refunded our full amount and 50$ for the trouble.

Beautiful Cottage
We made this cottage our base for exploring Highlands National Park. We enjoyed using the deck and Cheticamp is a short drive away. The appliances in the kitchen are new and in great shape and this is a very comfortable place to stay

Comfortable cabin
This was a great location with stunning views. Property signage was a little hard to see at dusk. Insulation would help with sound proofing and heat if cabin is rented out in cooler months but overall, we enjoyed our time in grand Etang and would definitely come back again. John was great to deal with and had all the information we needed conveniently put together in his guest book. This won’t be our last trip to cape breton!

Great location for Cape Breton Highlands
This is a fantastic property. You're surrounded by windows, allowing you to enjoy the wonderful view all around! The open layout is fantastic, and enjoying dinners while watching the sunset is a highlight (made me want to eat-in more!). Location is great, right on the cabot trail and close to numerous restaurants and grocery/liquor stores in Cheticamp. Also great as an entry point into the nearby national park. Also great to meet John and his daughter who were very responsive to any questions we had. Excellent stay, would definitely return!

Unplugged & simply quaint
We loved how spacious and simply arranged this cottage was. It had all we needed, comfortable beds, and ample space for a family of 6. We particularly loved that it didn't have a television! We enjoyed cooking, playing cards, and just spending quality time together. It is located right on the Cabot Trail and close to a grocery store. Jyl came by to make sure we had everything we needed and was super sweet! I knew we could reach out if we had any questions. Thank you!!!

Nice clean homey cottage
piece and quiet. Great place to relax at or use as home base for day trips. Cottage has every thing you would want and more. Daughter didn't bring her binoculars but hey there is a pair on the shelf. Great bathroom and nice size bedrooms. Couch was a great place to curl up on a rainy day. Great restaurants in Cheticamp and even had a kitchen fest night at the Doryman . Would go back again or maybe check out John's other rental which looks interesting as well.

Fall in Cape Breton
We could not have found better lodging than the Babineau cottage for our five day visit to Cape Breton Highlands National Park. In addition, the cottage is convenient to Cheticamp, the Co-op for groceries and multiple restaurants. The cottage was extremely clean and well-stocked. The kitchen had beautiful dishes, flatware and cooking utensils. There were great towels in both the kitchen and bathroom. Added to all of this was a nice full-sized washer and dryer and heated floor in the bathroom. The WiFi connection was very adequate which made it easy to check the weather forecast before we headed out on the hiking trails. Lastly, we got to meet the owner, John who was very accessible and quick to answer our questions. Would love to visit this area again in the summer, but the fall foliage was beautiful!

Great house, great location
The house was great. It was big enough for our family of 5, and had a very nice kitchen and table for eating or playing cards. Fantastic views of the water and mountains. Perfect for sunsets! The house is on the Cabot Trail, only 10 minutes south of Cheticamp, where there are a lot of food options. It’s also a short drive to the National Park, where we did a couple great hikes. Delightful Cottage
It was delightful to discover such a unique cottage—nothing like the typical “housekeeping” cottages you often see along the coast. John’s cottage stylishly blends antique cabinetry with modern appliances, hand-crafted surfaces, and beautiful hardwood floors. The craftsmanship that went into the cottage was obvious as soon as we entered. The location just outside of Cheticamp was perfect for our three-day exploration of the national park and the Cabot Trail. We were glad we stayed on the west side of the island and were able to watch the sun setting over the ocean from the cottage’s deck. It was also nice to meet John when he stopped by to check on us and brought us a jar of homemade strawberry jam. The people of Cape Breton are so welcoming, we look forward to a return trip!
