Do you want a beach in your backyard? Bayfront!

Beachfront in Grand Marais, Michigan. We do not advertise on FB or CL, and we do not bill through PayPal or money orders/wire. Summers: weekly booking schedule is from a SUNDAY to SUNDAY only between last week of June to end of first week in September. At all other times it is a 2 night minimum. Located in Grand Marais, Michigan.

An original log cabin inside, this property is on the bay in Grand Marais, Michigan. The Bay Cabin is a small 3 bedroom, 1 bathroom cabin with a study. It has a beach in the backyard, as it is fronting onto the bay in Grand Marais. A few yards short of the beach is the firepit where you can relax and watch fireworks on July 4 or just enjoy the tranquility of the water. The Bay Cabin also has a large deck for relaxing or dining while taking advantage of the great views. Behind the property a few hundred feet is the Lake Superior shore front.

Inside the Bay Cabin you will find a fully equipped kitchen, soft and comfortable bed and bath linen and cable TV. The master bedroom has a queen size bed with a 3 inch memory foam topper and a view of the bay. The second bedroom has a full size bed. The third bedroom has bunk beds and the study has a twin bed. You will also find a lovely granite gas fireplace to warm your toes in the living room when there is a chill in the air.

The Bay Cabin was originally built in 1936 as a traditional full log cabin. Sometime later it was sided on the outside for additional insulation, but the inside remains true whole logs. The floors are lovely local hardwood with soft rugs placed in strategic spots. A soft leather couch and rocking chairs with ottomans completes the log cabin decor.

Outside there is a large deck with reclining chairs and ottomans, and a dining table. Under the side porch we have placed a wood picnic bench for outside dining on a hot sunny summer day or for when it is raining. For relaxing, with a warm beverage or a cocktail, use the deck chairs or the Bay Cabin's Adirondack chairs down at the firepit and beach. There is also a charcoal grill available for your use.

The Bay Cabin's private beach area IS 122 feet at the water's edge and 118 feet at the bank starting from the pine trees on the east side of the property. This beach is perfect for swimming, paddling, boating from, or even for pulling your sea plane into. It is also a wonderful place to sit at the edge of the water and enjoy an evening cocktail or a morning coffee. If you would like a long beach walk, just head to the open beach on the north side of the Bay Cabin by the beach accesses at either end of the road.

The Bay Cabin is about 600 feet from the center of town, playground, markets, stores, galleries, restaurants and bars. Go the other way 500 feet and you'll be at the lighthouse. Less than two miles away by road is Sable Falls and Sable Dunes, a shorter distance away if you walk the beach. Sable Lake, the Log Slide and Pictured Rocks are a little further on by road.

Come stay at the Bay Cabin and enjoy the experience of having your own waterfront cabin for a while.

Open between late spring - early May to end of October. Summer bookings: from last week of June to end of the first full week of September bookings are weekly only from Sunday to Sunday. At other times bookings may start on any day for a 2 night minimum.

CLEANING: We have added some extra cleaning protocols in 2020 including using white linen and washing in hot water, and Lysol type spray products.

INTERNET: None in the Bay Cabin. Available at various places around town, including (subject to change without notice) at the Diner a short distance away, the Grand Marais Tavern, and at the Grand Marais Outfitters in town.

WASHER & DRYER: Not available in cabin, but laundry facilities available at Woodland Park on Braizel Street (from the cabin second street on the right, just before the gas station).

Coming into town on M-77 (it will turn into Lake Avenue) continue through the center of town (bank on right, hardware to the left) heading toward Lake Superior, continue past the Dune Saloon then down the hill, the road will fork so go right onto Coast Guard Point Road (aka Canal Street) and continue past the marina and past the land on the right with the old large boats on it, you will then go past a fenced property and the Bay Cabin is the next house on the right hand side of the road.
2. From H-58 past Sable Dunes and Sable falls entrance continue into town, it turns into Carlson Street, turn left on Lake Avenue (Dune Saloon on your left), continue down the hill, the road will fork so go right on Coast Guard Point Road (aka Canal Street) and continue past the marina and past the land on the right with the old large boats on it, you will then go past a fenced property and the Bay Cabin is the next house on the right hand side of the road.

Some things to do around Grand Marais:
1. Visit the local restaurants: The Grand Marais Tavern, or The Lake Superior Brewing Co (aka Dunes Saloon). The old fish market east of town about 2 miles has regular wine tastings, sells beer and fresh eggs from their hens.
2. Swim at East Bay or West Bay beaches.
3. Walk Agate Beach from the lighthouse to Sable Falls. Or walk along the road to Sable Falls west along Carlson Street and H-58, then down the side of the falls, and back to the Lake Street in town.
4. Walk the trails both east and west of Grand Marais.
5. Visit the Agate Museum and other antique and gift shops in town.
6. Friday night is farmers' market in the town park - locals sell their homegrown and homemade goods in the open space near the pergola - there are some excellent cooks living in Grand Marais.
7. See Kim at the Grand Marais Outfitters to organize or rent a kayak. Richard at Grand Marais Powersports rents four wheelers. Rainbow Charters for a charter boat tour/fishing expedition.
8. Visit the log slide lookout about 13 miles west of Grand Marais off H-58. A little further along that road is the 6 mile trail to Au Sable Lighthouse.
9. Visit Pictured Rocks that is about 40 minutes west of Grand Marais off H-58.
10. Use the grill on the grass area, cook your steaks, sit on your deck and enjoy your steak with a cocktail or soda while looking out at the lighthouse and water and beautiful sunsets.

Beautiful location, thought of every amenity. Gas fireplace makes it so cozy! Very comfortable beds and bedding and plenty of towels, which isn't always the case at rentals. Had a wonderful time on the lake. The firepit an added plus !

Loved being on the bay with a short walk to the lake. The cabin is close to the road so noise was an issue as there was construction sites at work.the cabin was well equipped and the deck was great. We would come again.

Overall a very enjoyable stay. Location of property and interaction with local agent five star. The only four-star category was we thought the property appeared bigger on the website than it actually was.

We loved our stay here! Yes, it's older and a bit rustic, but it is everything we needed. We usually camp when we're in Grand Marais, but because my daughter and her boyfriend were coming up from downstate, we figured we would try a VRBO. They loved it too. And a major perk that our Lab could come too!

Great location on the point of Grand Marais! Comfy beds, very relaxing. Even saw a huge black bear on the point during our morning walk.. although there was no internet the coffee shop was a great place to hang out and get some work done. When we went to do laundry the campground was very accommodating and easy to use. (Maybe a couple of ant traps inside would be Beneficial)

This cabin is in a great location and within easy walking distance to the quaint downtown of Grand Marais. It has 3+ bedrooms that handled our group of three adults and two children very well. The cabin beach area is clean, sandy and has a nice fire pit for those evening bonfires. The only downside is that the three bedrooms do not have doors, rather curtains and that makes it hard for people to use the living room when others are sleeping. Overall a great place, great location and a great value. Colin

The mattresses could have been better and most of the lamps needed lightbulbs. In spite of that we loved the rustic cabin and had no problem making coffee and preparing great breakfasts in the morning. Wish the weather would have cooperated so we could have enjoyed a campfire.

Six adults worked because we were adult siblings. There is no room in the bedrooms for dressers. The bedroom doors are only barely covered by narrow curtains. Kitchen and living room is adequate and lovely. You can't beat the location.

Very nice and cozy. View across the bay was great. The only problem we had was the pilot light kept going out the gas fireplace. We told the property manager about it but did not get any response. We finally figured out how to relight it manually.

This is a nice cottage on the bay in Grand Marais. Nice beach, but there are docks along the beach making it difficult for beachwalking. The cottage was very clean and was stocked with everything most families would need for a comfortable stay. The one thing that bothered us , as a family, was the foldable door that was on the bathroom. It wouldn't close completely, which we found uncomfortable. Other than that , the cottage is close to town and many great family activities. And the townspeople are very friendly and welcoming. Our family has four adults and this cozy cottage was more than adequate for our needs.

This is a good place to stay with people you like alot. The outdoor space is perfect with fire pit, covered table and open table and a great view of bay. 15 minute walk on the roadside to town or lake superior beach. We loved the location. Inside is very clean and cozy. The bedrooms have curtains for doors. The bathroom is through the office so there is no privacy if somebody is going to sleep there. We enjoyed our stay and I only wish there would have been directions for the pretty fireplace or wall thermostat. However, with bathroom heater and electric plug in we were plenty warm. Thank you!

The location is great. The cabin is as advertised. It's not wonderful but it's a roof over your head with a beach fire pit. Not too shabby. There was a dead animal odor the entire time in the house. Seems preventable but there's nothing anyone would be able to do to remediate it so again, whatever. The door lock wasn't working (also not their fault) so we were provided with a padlock for the screen door. This wasn't exactly secure but luckily there aren't roving gangs of thieves in Grand Marais. Overall, the property and our stay was great. The cabin just wasn't.

The place was clean except there was so many cobwebs everywhere both inside and outside, that I had to clean when I got there. This is the second time we have been there. The last time we had to purchase duct tape to repair screens. Fortunately this time I brought it with us and glad because we needed it. I literally got the **** scared out of me when I went in to use the bathroom and there was a bird flying in the house fifteen minutes after we arrived, it came in through one of the three holes in the bathroom screen. Another large rip in front screen in door( looks like someone put their hand through it) We only had a number for the cleaning lady, so that is who we contacted when the cable went out. The “ property manager” came, couldn’t so anything, but would let us know. Never a follow up, and it did come back on three days later. However, the outside, spectacular, the scenery is what it is all about. In all seriousness, if this place was updated just a tiny bit, it would be perfect, IF property manager would fix screens etc…..

As described this cabin was very small. We did have 8 people there for one night, but it would have been quite difficult for more nights. We ate outside on the deck, which is a fabulous addition. I was sorry to see that the photos of the water front are quite deceptive. They imply a long stretch of open beach either side of the property but thats definitely not the case. There are houses on both sides, on quite a busy road and quite close to the actual road. The house was kind of separated from neighbors by trees but one can easily hear whats going on and watch the neighbors to the north quite easily. The beach on Superior is beautiful, easy to get away from people. Both the diner and the newer bay front restaurant were great for drop ins, we didnt eat dinner at either. Dinner was had at the Dune Saloon and it was very good. Grocery shopping was very bad there, we stocked up in Munising. To my surprise fresh fish was very difficult to find. There was a local fisherman who had a store just south of the cabin, but he opened sporadically. We did get some fish there and it was delicious. The cabin was spotless, the hot water was endless it seemed, no small feat when we were there wiith two teen girls. I would have loved a gas grill, we did cook on the fire, but its not an easy task for a quick meal. Some boating equipment would have been great, a kayak or canoe. They were very expensive to rent. its something we would have made a lot of use of. The Upper Penninsula was beautiful. The walk from the Log Slide to the Au Train lighthouse was a wonderful walk, so quiet and just gorgeous views of the lake and dunes along the way.

My husband and I rented this cabin to share with 3 additional adults. Everything was as described and we knew it might be a little tight with the five of us. The outdoor space is exceptional and gave us plenty of room for us and our extended family who were staying nearby. The kitchen window faces the bay and is located on the deck side so whoever is working in the kitchen can still be apart of the group conversation on the deck. We had a few days of high wind which forced us to eat our meals inside. No worries, the table opens to accommodate six adults comfortably. The bedrooms are very small but the beds and the linens were comfortable. I stayed in the room with the queen size bed and a sliding door that allowed us to enjoy the moon reflecting off the water of the bay as we went to sleep. The coziness of the room meant my husband had to crawl over the top of me to get out of bed each morning since he rises earlier than me. Finding rentals in Grand Marais that have a queen size bed can be challenging so it was more than acceptable for us. We all appreciated the nice shower with plenty of hot water. The location of the bathroom could not be better. It is difficult to describe but it is located in a small room on the west side of the cabin which offered more privacy than just a door between the user and the other cabin mates. The small room also gave us a space to store our groceries and suitcases. The rental process was easy and my communications with the owner and the caretaker were all positive and professional. I only have one complaint, the pans for cooking need to be replaced. I sent a message to the owner about them so I expect she will follow up on that. This Rustic Cabin is comfortable, full of charm, and has a great location.
